Prince George, B.C. – The Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako has raised $24,000 from its Mustang car raffle to support the hair and wig salon at the Kordyban Cancer Lodge.
The club has just presented those proceeds to Les Waldie of the Canadian Cancer Society in Prince George.
The proceeds are part of the committment made by theRotary Clubbs from Williams Lake through to Prince Rupert to raise $100,000 for the Rotary Hair and Wig Salon at the Kordyban Cancer Lodge. At this point, about $65 thousand in total has been raised for the hair and wig salon. "The services offered by the hair and wig salon will not be limited to those staying at the Kordyban Lodge, says Canadian Cancer Society spokesman Les Waldie, "Anyone who is undergoing cancer treatment at the new Northern Cancer centre, can make use of the salon."

Margaret Jones -Bricker says she cannot stress enough the importance the hair and wig salon is to those undergoing treatment "For those who have lost their hair because of treatment it can be really traumatic. This provides them an opportunity to get back part of themselves. It is a wondeful gift that you(Rotary Clubs) are giving." She says each year, hair is donated to the Cancer Society in Prince George, that then sends the hair to a wig manufacturer in Vancouver. "The donated hair has to be at least 8 inches in length, and it takes donations from 25-30 heads of hair to make just one wig.
