Red Nose Ridership Down- Phone System Blamed

Wednesday, December 7, 2011 @ 2:33 PM
Prince George, B.C. – A problem with phones lines may be the reason why Operation Red Nose serviced fewer customers this past weekend than   on the same weekend last year.

Although set up to handle 4 calls at a time, a problem with the line meant while one call was being answered, anyone else   calling in was getting a busy signal.

On Friday, Dec. 2  Operation red Nose provided 56 safe rides home with 14 teams on the road who travelled 1,393 km. In 2010,  there were  60 rides provided by  13 teams on the same night.

On Saturday, Dec. 3, Operation Red Nose  provided 90 safe rides home with 17 teams on the road who travelled 2,625 km. In 2010  there were 106 rides provided by 18 teams on the same night.

Overall, the program is down 27 rides  this year (220) over the same period in 2010 when they had provided 247 rides on the first four nights of operations.

The good news is, the phone line issue has been fixed, and there should be no further  problem getting through to the 962-RIDE number.

There will be 20 road teams out this Friday and 23 road teams out Saturday to deal with the expected increase of calls and demand.

There are some special incentives for those who volunteer to help get people home New Years Eve. Those volunteers will be entered to win dinner for two at Winston’s or a one-night’s stay in the honeymoon suite at the Coast Inn of the North (courtesy of Coast Inn of the North) and a pair of tickets to the Johnny Reid concert in April at the CN Centre.

And people are now scared s**tless to go out.

What’s wrong with these people, they can’t walk?

All these fat people and smokers need to get off their butts and walk if the want to drink. This is what human legs are for geez.

Ok dissident… my house is 27 kms from my Christmas party. Can you please come and walk it with me – oh and you will have to carry my wife
thanks

Everyone has a smart ass answer on this site eh. What you don’t living that far out of town for? Ya got something to hide? Take away your SUV and you are screwed aren’t ya.

Dissident, there just aren’t words.

My hat’s off to these volunteers, and kudos to the people who have brains to use them.

Why does dissident remind me of chrislivingdowntown or whatever that guy was called?
So anyone that lives outside of walking distance from the downtown has something to hide I guess. That would only cover about 95% of the people here lol

Congratulations to the volunteers this is a great operation this time of year

dissident or..idiot..or clueless or or or

The police have shut down the thought of even having a drink and driving.. the new .05 is the most stupid ever brought in.. no one will chance driving now.. look at all the bars that have closed in PG.

Science has proven that .08 is driving under the influence.. not .05 money grab.

whats next.. having the speed limit of 100 kph and the cops handing out “potential” speeding tickets for anyone over 90 ?

its a stupid law to increase funding for our useless provincial government.. again they are trying to fund their stupidity from the tax payers..

btw.. it would be funny if you got caught for being drunk in public while walking home from a party.. LOL

I understand our city of PG nets about $250,000 dollars in this budget per annum as a portion of speeding tickets and traffic fines handed out in our vicinity. You wouldn’t deny the hard working RCMP tax collecting law enforcing officers their rightful duty to do their jobs, would you? Just imagine the Mounties pulling in a minimal of funds. Our city taxes would go up to compensate for this loss of revenue. I’m sure you wouldn’t want our city council to pass a law that states, “all city employees (inside and out) shall bring their empty bottles and pop cans to work with them every day so the city of PG can cash them in to balance the city’s budget”. That would never do.
