Flying Ho-Ho–Home for the Holidays

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 @ 3:54 AM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Airport is prepping for the busiest time of the year.

This Friday, the real holiday crush will start as students wrap up their semester and are free to head home for the holidays, or families head out for a Christmas break.

There are a number of things  you can do to reduce your time in line ups, and make sure your trip gets off to a good start:

1.      Check the weather conditions at YXS and any airports where you may be making a connecting flight if there are weather issues, check with your airline to see if there will be any delays.
2.      Arrive at the Prince George airport at least one hour in advance of your departure time
3.      If possible, you can check yourself in online and this should save sometime, but be aware of any additional costs for extra baggage.
4.      When packing gifts,  make sure they are unwrapped, as security may want to see what is inside
5.      If possible, put some identification inside your baggage as well as on the outside
6.      Check the CATSA website   to make sure you are clear with what you can, and cannot carry on board the flight.
7.      If you are leaving a vehicle at the airport, arrive a little early to ensure you can find a parking spot

The passenger volume at the airport is expected to start increasing on Friday the 16th and carry on being pretty busy until the 9th of January.

International airport with 2 monitors for flights in the whole building.

I was at the airport once when they did not have ANY flight info monitors. “Look for a glorified windsock by a potato field”. As I once mentioned to a stewardess at YVR on my way back to PG.
