Invest North Central B.C. Website Under Discussion

Prince George, B.C.- The Regional District of Fraser Fort George will be sending a letter of support for the creation of a website aimed at attracting investment from all over the world.
To be called “Invest North Central B.C.” the idea would be based on the recently launched “Invest Northwest” website which features development opportunities from Haida Gwaii to Houston and Stewart to Kitimat.
The Northern Development Initiatives Trust provided funding for the Northwest version, and it is hoped similar funding would be made available for a North Central website.
It is estimated the development of this website would cost in the range of $111 thousand dollars. It is being recommended the cost be shared among Prince George, Mackenzie, Fraser Lake, Fort St. James, Vanderhoof, Valemount and McBride, the Regional Districts of Fraser-Fort George and Bulkley- Nechako, as well as NDIT, Dept of Foreign Affairs (ICCI) and the Province of BC. There is a possibility of requesting funding from the Omineca Beetle Action Coalition.
Director Lara Beckett raised a concern about the material on the Invest Northwest website saying she is concerned because all of the items being promoted are raw resource exports “I would hope we would try to promote more value added projects” says Beckett “If we are to create jobs , I would hope that would be way to go.”

So why would the regional district kick in money for a website that should be fully funded by NDI or the province? A better question is why would PG taxpayers have to pay for something twice? Doesn’t IPG have a promotional website they could simply link or must we shell out more tax dollars for duplication of the same. Sounds like a “core review” needs to be done at the regional district.
Different Perspective – look who is on the board of PGRD………thought part of PG City council?
$111 thousand dollars? Heck, put a competition out there for the local students. They probably could do a better job at a fraction of the price……….Trained in the north – stay in the north?
