Nicholson Moving to the Island
Thursday, December 15, 2011 @ 8:26 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Hugh Nicholson, the Publisher of the Prince George Citizen, is leaving Prince George.
He has taken on a new position with Glacier Media ( the company which owns the Citizen) which will see him take on the role of Divisional Manager for the Vancouver Island Newspaper division. Nicholson will be responsible for all of Glacier’s papers on the Island with the exception of the Times Colonist.
Nicholson will report directly to the VP of the B.C. Newspaper Operations, Peter Kvarnstrom and will start his new job on January 4th.
Nicholson has been at the helm of the Prince George Citizen for three years. Glacier Media has not gone public with who will take on the job as Publisher of the Citizen.

Arrivederci!
please don’t ever come back
Watch out for the screen door!
worst publisher ever!
@realitycheck – that’s MY line :)
So, he did such a great job he got a promotion?
Worst ownership group ever.
best news ever for Prince George. To bad he will still be connected to The Citizen.
Good by Nicholson, it’s been a slice.Give the people of Prince George JUSTICE and never come back again. I mean NEVER!!!!!!!! You give good journalism a very bad name!
sorry, there should have been an e after the y in bye bye Nicholson
Wonderful .
Soooooo! What new reject do we get now???
Amazing how he got a promotion.
Over the three years he’s been in PG, the circulation has fallen by at least 4,000.
He’s gutted the place of the best people.
But I wouldn’t be surprised if the Citizen is temporarily more profitable, and the ownership is too stupid to realize what’s really happened. Hugh Nicholson single handedly destroyed the Citizen brand, trading decades of future profits for a short term income statement boost.
And btw, kudos to Ben Meisner for scooping Hugh Nicholson on Hugh Nicholson leaving.
How come I’m not getting my free Thursday paper anymore? Not that I read the paper. I like to peruse the flyers and use the newspaper to light my stove.
So sorry Vancouver Island.
Not surprising. From a corporate perspective these types of individuals aren’t meant to stay for a long period. Come in – clean house – slash expenses and increase net profits. That has been done so time to move on.
It is unfortunate that along the way they lost some good people and as a result of his radical right editorial position, they (he) did a lot of damage in the community. He at least helped the puppet masters get their puppet in the mayor’s chair before he left.
Perhaps now the citizen will have informed, balanced, and well crafted editorials that result in intelligent reflection and productive discussion rather than ill thought and poorly expressed editorials that incite fear and spread ignorance. Unfortunately the latter is something we have grown accustom to over the last three years and it’s been tearing the community apart. Change brings hope.
I don’t suppose he will cut and paste these comments on his CV, eh? Ha ha ha .
Like others have noted, I don’t know what Mr. Nicholson did that would warrant a promotion.
The Citizen has gone so far downhill in the last five years that the Free Press has caught up to them, and suprassed them in many ways.
Turned the Citizen into a total rag and leaves. Thanks Mr. Nicholson!
I am not sure Mr. Nicholson will know what to do without Dan McLaren telling what to think!
He is part of the cabal of ‘business’ people around Mr. McLaren and the downtown business association who think they own and operate the city for their own benefits.
Won’t miss him……
Good, maybe we can get some half decent comics now LOL
