Prince George, B.C.- The Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM) has made a significant donataion to the College of New Caledonia, which it hopes will help students who want a career in mining.

A cheque for $30 thousand dollars was presented this morning, and $28 thousand of it will immediately go into an endowment fund, The balance will be split into four awards of $500 dollars each and will be handed out next year.

“The mining industry is a rapidly growing field with excellent career opportunities,” says Jamie Hull, Vice Chair of the North Central B.C. branch of the CIM “We wanted to help CNC students attain the education that will allow them to excel in this growing industry, which has a very bright future in northern B.C.”

The CNC mining certificate program is offered on a rotational basis at the college’s regional campuses and is currently underway in Quesnel and Vanderhoof. It has already been successfully delivered at the Fort St. James and Burns Lake campuses, with more than 80% of graduates earning jobs.
