Rural Railway Crossings Being Checked

Smithers, B.C. – Rural train track crossings in the Bulkley Valley are getting the once-over after a scary incident west of Smithers Wednesday.
A father and his young son stopped their vehicle at the Kitseguecla Road crossing before attempting to proceed. Police say it was at that point the car’s wheels became stuck in deep ice grooves that had formed along the rail tracks. The driver was unable to move forward or backward.
The situation got worse when the driver saw an east-bound freight train heading toward the car. The man grabbed his son and moved clear of the vehicle and the crossing.
The CN rail crew attempted an emergency stop, but couldn’t get the train halted before it hit the car.
There were no injuries, but the Ministry of Transportation and CN Rail have decided to make plans to remove the ice build-up and check other rural crossings for similar safety hazards.

Make plans???? you’ve got to be joking!!!!
The ice on that crossing should have been removed on ther same day, even if they would have had to work all night!
^ exactly, next thing you know the CN cops will be giving you a ticket for getting stuck on their crossings.
This happened to me on a crossing in the city (off Ospika). Could not move forward but thankfully was able to drive backwards. Was scary. Thankfully no train coming at the time.
