City Staff to Huddle On Needs of Meadowbrook Apartment Residents

Monday, January 9, 2012 @ 3:53 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The 28 people who lived in the Meadowbrook apartment block on First Avenue near Ospika, are waiting to hear what further assistance they may receive from the City of Prince George Emergency Social Services program supported by the Emergency Measures B.C.

The 28 have been forced to find new places to live after the building sustained extensive damage from a deliberately set fire on New Year’s Day. It will be at least three months before the necessary repairs are made and the units liveable again.

The City’s Emergency Social Services program has been extended until tomorrow and City Staff are meeting today to assess the status and needs of those who were impacted by the fire.

Meantime, the Police investigation into the fire continues as they look for the person or person’s responsible for setting the fire.

I don’t want to sound heartless, but does the city come to the aid of families who have been burned out of thier private houses? Why is this a city issue and shouldn’t people be responsible for having the necessary insurance if they want to lessen the impact of a tradegy like this?
