After that I am sure we can find other things to whine about. ANd the fast ferries? You FIBERALS can not EVER bring up anything but that. Sure the NDP bungled that it was a screw up. ABSULUTELY. Why bring back the NDP which had all of ten years to make a positive difference in this province? It did not. Look who is leading the party now and who is its president – it’s stale old same old Moe!
My thought for today is that the hearts and minds of the Afghan people can still be easily won, even after almost a decade of trying. Kill a few of their men, then stand around in a half circle and urinate on the bloodied corpses! Don’t forget to make a video of it and to post it on the internet! Voila, instant results!

I’m for the pipeline to Kitimat, it is good for our country. The country of Canada will benefit in many ways. 1) We no longer will have only one customer for our oil. 2) It will collect revenues on taxes it has on exporting, to assist the aging population with more health care money. 3) employ people in the oil industry, who makes too much money, but spends just as much to keep the economy chugging along. 4) Give the First Nation communities an opportunity for new revenue sources, to improve life on the reserves. 5) Opportunity for the public to work with big business to find a solution to challenges of building and maintaining a pipeline through sensitive land.

LEED – It’s been a few years since this became the biggest buzz word in the construction industry. Has this method of building made any significant reduction in greenhouse gases, saved the building owners/operators money in energy costs? Most (or all) of all the new buildings backed by government money had to be built to LEED standards, adding more expense to the design and construction of these facilities.
Did this new idealogy adopted from the USA benefit us Canadians or just end up costing taxpayers more money to build these fancy buildings?
LEED is a great idea, if you’re building in the southern USA where you don’t have cold winters. What is the additional cost for us locally to have these buildings designed to the standards for a climate we never see?
A few LEED projects built (or being built)recently in PG: Duchess Park PGRCC Women’s Addition Cancer Centre CNC Technical Ed Building UNBC BioEnergy RCMP Detachment
I’m sure the designers of the proposed PAC are making this LEED as well.
How much money would have been saved if these projects eliminated some of the design elements that don’t make sense for our climate?
That is a list of projects only in PG, imagine the money spent on all the new buildings in Canada that were LEED certified.
Do we end up saving money in the life of the building to offset the increase in construction/design costs?

Matty C thinks the end of HST and the arrival of NDP is the end of our problems? As much as I don’t like the Liberals, they are the lesser of two evils. As for the HST,the only thing we’ll see different there is how we pay our taxes. We may get our double tax back but it ain’t going to be any cheaper, the writings already on the wall. As nice as it is to be optimistic,MattyC, those days spell doom and gloom to me.

I seriously think the US oil industry is funding all the green organization which sends money not to build the pipeline to Kitimat. US pays less for our oil than what is on the market place, because they know we can not sell it to anyone else, so they are bullying us.
So essentially, one of the dirtiest countries in the world is using the naive Canadians thru a greening campaign to supposively stop the pipeline so they can continue to abuse us by stopping us from taking our resources to the world market.
That’s my opinion…… Step back and check out who makes the financial gains if they stop the pipeline.

LEED’s this is a true story. In the LEED’s Program, all drywall cuts and left over needs to be taken to a Drywall recycle plant so the project can pick up points.
Yes we took it from Williams Lake to Kelowna so the projects can pick up points. You tell me, is that better for the environment!
Big city thinking don’t work in small communities. But small communities need to get on the program or government won’t fund the projects.

Quote by Lao Tsu an older contemporary of Confucius in the sixth (6th) century.
**When taxes are too high, people go hungry. When the government is too intrusive, people lose their spirit.**
**Act for the people’s benefit; trust them, leave them alone.**
Good advice for the Liberals. They are constantly in our face with new laws, rules and regulations, user fees, and robber baron taxes. The have a serious problem with **truth** and propaganda is their way of communicating.
We need to change out this Government, and let the devil take the hindmost. If we constantly defend the Liberals because the alternative is the NDP, then we are doomed to a Liberal Government that has little or no concern for the average Joe, and who will continue to fleece us.

All the companies which are extracting oil from the tarsands are foreign owned! Does Canada have ANY control over how much they charge for it when they sell it or who they sell it to? Is Enbridge a Canadian company? Canada gets some royalties and the prospect of more and bigger oil spills when the pipeline is built. And a couple of hundred of permanent jobs.
Matty C is very enthusiastic about the NDP. The reality is this: Harper has been lowering corporate taxes federally, all of Canada’s competitors have been lowering theirs, all of our competitors are sweetening the pie for corporations in order to attract vital global investment money. Along comes the BC NDP with a scheme to raise taxes in B.C.!
Great for all the others, but not so much for B.C. and it’s just another NDP mantra which works well for attracting votes but is very unsound in real life!

“So essentially, one of the dirtiest countries in the world is using the naive Canadians thru a greening campaign to supposively stop the pipeline so they can continue to abuse us by stopping us from taking our resources to the world market”….To me it’s not just about the environment but that is still open for debate if I can feel comfortable that this can be acheieved with little to no risk to our ecosystem. What is more important to me is that we are being sold this lie based on jobs, jobs, jobs, money, money, money for BC, and that is just what it is…a lie. BC stands to gain a pawlty $115 million a year and meanwhile our gas prices will go up as we watch our crude go east (far east). Instead refineries should be setup right where the tar sands are. When Canadas’ enerygy needs are met, then send the rest to markets in the world. The number of foreign owned companies should be limited when it comes to having access to our natural resources. There should be at the very minimum 60% wholly owned and operated Canadian companies doing these projects.

I highly doubt the Enbridge pipeline will bring any economic benefits that anyone who posts on this forum will ever see. Short term jobs will go to Alberta thanks to the TILMA agreement and we will be left to clean up the inevitable spills.
If you buy that line about how this is good for all Canadians, ask yourself this; Why is Alberta not the Kuwait of the Western hemisphere? Sure the oil companies pay outrageous amounts of money to their employees, but they also make outrageous amounts of money. Our governments have fuddled their way through our resource management to the point that most Canadian natural resources are not Canadian anymore. We need a man like Danny Williams who ensured that the people of NFLD and Labradour benefited from the Oil that rightfully belongs to the people of NFLD and Labradour, not Harper or his corporate cronies.
*****************************************
In regards to LEED certification, it costs about 12-16% more to gain LEED certification, but those costs are revamped within 5-10 years. Not sure about you folks, but if I could build a house that freed me from the greed of the utility companies and put more bucks in my pocket, them count me in. If you want to see a great movie about sustainable housing, watch “Garbage Warrior”. LEED is an attempt to save some bucks in the long run. If that is a “big city” way of thinking, then call me and my wallet, big city.
Probably my opinion and my opinion only, but I’m proud that I live in this country where individual freedoms are celebrated.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Above is the link for Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers that work for the Government of Canada. Top rate as of 1 April 2012 will be overe $198,000 taxpayer dollars. These people are not elected. They are (generally) not people that did well in the real world and then went to Ottawa to do their part for Canadian society. Generally they are non-partisan Government insiders that worked for reigning Liberals and now work for the Conservatives. Generally I would suggest that I wouldnt let them walk my dog. They are career bearucrats that just keep getting paid for the “results” that Ottawa produces.
They are actually the highest paid civil servants based on a comparision with Ministerial salaries posted on the Canadian Taxpayer website.
Does this seem right? I would suggest that if alot of these people lost their current jobs they wouldnt be seniour executives in the private sector, they would be lucky to find any job at all, yet they live VERY WELL on our tax dollars.

Fiberals, we won’t sell the BCR, we won’t bring in the HST. Now supporting shipbuilding after buying ferries off shore and destroying a viable aluminum shipbuilding industry.
How is the US one of the dirtiest countries in the world? can you back that up? Where do they rank with India, Russia, China the middle east?
For all you US haters how come millions of people from all over the world try to get in every year.

The roof came to the end of its projected lifespan, it got ripped open in a windstorm. So it HAD to be replaced.
The Convention Centre had to have a much needed upgrade if Vancouver was going to remain as a viable host of international conventions.
It was the NDP that first got the ball rolling for the Winter Olympics.
With the NDP there could be a hole in the ground where BC Place is now and the convention business could have moved to Seattle.
The Olympics application could have been cancelled.
And BC Ferries could still be waiting anxiously for a newer no b.s. version of the Fast Ferries to make it through their first sea trials.
Enjoy sunny Friday 13th!

If the NDP did such a great job when they were in how com only 2 got reelected and most of the MLA’s that were in power pulled the plug rather than run for reelection including the local reps. Something else beside the negative issues re the fast ferries, how about the 2 successive fudgeit budgets. That’s not lying? Come on. Well it looks like it was an interesting day on “Friday Free for all” > Lots about governments and their faults. I remember someone telling me that “any government is better then no government” of which I have to agree. Provincially the BC Liberals have done a good job; take a look around and see what’s going on. In today’s paper it was reported that 34 billion dollars of investment is planned for this part of the province. That is a lot of investment. Compare that with the days of NDP when investment dollars were travelling east of BC! But unfortunately the BC Liberals have done things that have made the citizens of BC cranky, things like the HST where it affected the cost of a Tim Horton’s coffee, BC’s new speed laws (how many vehicles have been impounded since this introduction) It seems that speeding carries a heavier punishment then a guy caught dealing in drugs! BC’s new drinking and driving laws, smell a cork too long and you can be labelled a criminal for the rest of your life! Under the watch of the BC Liberals fines are aplenty. These are just a few things that effect everyday people of BC and it seems the face of BC is changing and it doesn’t look like the BC of even 10 or 15 years ago. I think the BC Liberals will go along the road of other “has been parties” and also I think the BC Conservatives are looking better all the time and with some tweaking they could form the next provincial government.

With all this money floating around for retraining for the unemployed/immigrants/disabled maybe the liberals should look at the “underemployed” for training. These are the people that work at 20 hours and some even get fired if they look for another job elsewhere. There are more than a few large outlets that do this to their employees. If they are not available for that 21st hour they are let go. These people are in a catch 22 position. Service Canada states they are employed full time. Perhaps with some of the shortage of workers etc. The government can look at raising the amount to say 30 hours and then help train the ones currently working. There are a lot in this City and elsewhere in the north. It would even help the locals at Frt St James ;)

But, no HST….. at the begining. It is only a matter of time before the NDP squeaks it in. If I remember correctly it was the NDP who initially brought it up in the 90’s
Go Enbridge go, They are almost the same size as CIBC on the stock market. Alberta company, get out from the rock you been hiding underfrom, They are a North American company, whose head office is in Calgary. Way to go Canada.
A few LEED projects built (or being built)recently in PG:
Duchess Park
PGRCC Women’s Addition
Cancer Centre
CNC Technical Ed Building
UNBC BioEnergy
RCMP Detachment
Never mind the NDP and Lieberals. You can vote Conservative!! At least John Cummins will stand up and fight the establishment if he has too!!!
I sure hope the Fiberals get in again. That way we can have billion dollar auditoriums and billion dollar parties and a 1/2 billion dollar roof and maybe set a new record in the worst child poverty rate in Canada yet again. Ohmy! The list of their wonderful accomplishments just goes on and on!!!
Good to see at least some people realize that the NDP isn’t going to be our saviours.
And, if you truly believe that the BC Place Roof, the Convention Centre, and the Olympics wouldn’t have happened under an NDP (or any other) regime, I have a bridge to sell you.

Better the devil you know? Really? I guess you Liberal supporters enjoying getting lied to, and shafted and a semi-regular basis?
Does that mean I trust the NDP? Not a single percentile. Dix and Sahota are still running the ship, and I can’t support anything that has Jenny Kwan involved.
I’ll be supporting John Cummins next time around. Maybe we’ll get lucky with a third party for once.
I commented all week to anyone at the PGRH who had an ear and a minute. I was told they now have a new flag on the roof of the hospital to replace that 2/3 of a flag rag that was up there previously. My whining filtered up. It’s the little things, folks.
Anyone notice that UNBC’S *Facts and Statistics* on their website has not been
updated since Sept. 2010. Other parts of the Website are updated on a regular basis.
Would be nice to know the number of FTE undergradute enrolments for 2011, plus the number of foreign students, etc;
Seems they cant publish the good news fast enough, but seem to drag their feet if the news is not positive.
I sure don’t like the idea of tankers in the Douglas channel!!! Yup, we take the risk, Alberta gets the $$$. But looks like the federals want this project; SOOO!!!

Provincial Conservatives, can’t be worse.
Leeds projects notice the list only contains public buildings and public money and how much has that affected our natural climate. By the way there is no proof on how much C02 affects the climate if any at all. Biggest most expensive scam the world has seen.
Greed of the utility companies, no that is the greed of the fiberals with multi billion dollar contracts to Independent Power Producers forcing an increase in our power rates. Thanks fiberals and their friends
.
John Cummins has Balz he would put up a road blockade just like the natives, BC needs a leader that isn’t afraid to stand up and fight for what he believes in!! He was even charged and fined fighting for rights!!
The provincial conservatives are the reason the NDP will win the next election. Vote splitting at its finest.
If vote splitting occurs (and it likely will) then maybe the Liberals should have thought of that before they got drunk with their snouts deep in the trough.
I cannot consciously vote for these Liberal lying sacks of “you know what”, and then look myself in the mirror.
Your pretty quick to rule out the Green Party?
It sure would be nice if the city had a bylaw that would force politicians, under threat of significant fines, to remove signage following any election.
Gadsby appears to be the worst offender, and he won’t ever get my vote.
Hello to you too Taxi. We finally got cold enough to stay dry. Enjoy your weather and winter. To you and everyone else out here, have a wonderful and safe weekend!
Hello to you too Taxi. We finally got cold enough to stay dry. Enjoy your weather and winter. To you and everyone else out here, have a wonderful and safe weekend!
sorry about that.
Mattyc , be careful what you wish for. Come on. How about Moe Sohota saying as long as he was min. of forests after being warned about the pine beatle he stated no trees would be cut in provincial parks as long as he was minister. Now he’s president of the NDP.
So retired what about all the lying the fiberals did to get in? Explain that.
Here is an interesting article how the fibs are sucking us dry using Hydro. Interesting about all the credit card or I mean deferral accounts forced onto hydro by the fibs. I don’t think deferral accounts are included in the budget. Gonna make anything the NDP did, look like the amateurs they were. The fibs are professional in rip offs.

We are screwed either way, no matter who wins the election.
So I just got my Smart Meter today. What ever happened to that protest? Has anyone got a tinfoil fat they can lend me?
Careful Johnny, it already has you confusing f’s for h’s.
Thanks mf! The fays… I mean rays are getting to me!
It’s easy to take off JohnnyBelt, just go outside and pull it off. It might be a cold night though.
Yikes! My hydro bill doubled!!!!
The whole Smart Meter emotional knee-jerk argument has fizzled out. You don’t hear much from those people anymore.
The media has since moved onto Enbridge and got everybody all riled up over that. I wonder what will be next?
Five years to repay HST intrest free,Feds want a pipeline, Ken Boessenkool now helping Clark
could there be some sort of a connection ?
Maybe we will see another raid in december.
Feds want a pipeline run through BC? How about we forget about that 1.6 billion and maybe we’ll think about letting them….
One of my biggest pet-peeves is people who have no respect for others. I’m talking about people who feel that it is ok to park their cars wherever they like in an apartment parking lot. In the summer I couldn’t care less but in the winter when I need to plug my vehicle in, I need access to my parking spot and my plug-in.
Please folks….show your neighbours some common courtesy and park elsewhere especially during the winter.
To the UNBC researcher studying glaciers you might want to read this to get an education on glaciers. Sorry it might mess up your grant money and fancy trips.
Woops klicked before adding site–http://wattsupwiththat.com/2012/01/11/the-portland-state-university-study-of-shrinking-mt-adams-glaciersa-good-example-of-bad-science/
