Prince George, B.C. – The driver of a tractor trailer has been charged under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act after a traffic light standard was sent crashing to the ground the morning.
Just after 10:30 this morning, Prince George RCMP received a report of a collision at the intersection of Highway 97 and 5th Avenue in Prince George, BC.
When they arrived on scene, officers found a traffic light and a street light had been destroyed.
A tractor trailer unit was located nearby.
The south bound lanes on Highway 97 from 5th Avenue to 10th Avenue were closed during the clean-up. Traffic control was called while crews worked to replace both the signal light and street light.
Investigators believe the driver of the tractor trailer was east bound on 5th Avenue approaching Highway 97. The driver intended on turning south bound on Highway 97, but missed the turning lane. Police believe the driver attempted to make a right hand (south bound) turn after the medianand brought down the light fixture in trying to make that turn.
Both the truck and trailer are registered to companies in Surrey, BC and the trailer itself, was not insured.
A 30 year old male driver from Vancouver, BC, has been charged under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act.
If you have any information about this collision, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-TIPS (8477), online at www.pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca, or Text-A-Tip to CRIMES using keyword "pgtips".

Typical idiot truck driver.
yeah like idiot car drivers never cause accidents, headshake yourself.
Haha. Nice one twospeed!
This truck driver is an idiot yes, but to make a statement like yours is a true sign!
Agree twospeed but the truck drivers are suppossed to be “professional drivers”, guess that means the rest of us are not. got to wonder.
poor guy maybe thought that was his last chance at a right turn in this whole town, cause getting lost here would take him about 10 more minutes of driving to get back on track, at least 10 minutes, maybe 11…
As a former truck driver I will tell you what really happened . This is a truck driver who probably does not speak or understand much English. A new Canadian as some will often say. These people are allowed to take the drivers test with the assistance of an interpreter . I have seen this happen countless times over the years at the DMV offices in the Lower Mainland. Just another flaw in the system. Or it is possible this driver is one of the over 2000 so called professional drivers who were able to “Buy” their Class 1 License from a certain driving school in the early to mid 90’s. There are some who have still not been found and properly tested.
My comment above is not meant to be racist or hateful in anyway . It is simply truth and fact.
This is why no particular race or company names were mentioned. Because as I understand it drivers of many races were able to buy their CDL from this school.
Don’t apologize. I hate that. Canadians apologize too much, Try it. Purposely step on someones toe and listen to them apologize. As for HarleyGuy72, taper off apologizing for what you think. People might like ya more if ya don’t try to be too PC. Maybe the worlds PC pendelum is on another directional swing. Here’s hoping. Apologizing fer what ya think? Gadzooks!
Harley: “This is a truck driver who probably does not speak or understand much English. A new Canadian as some will often say.”
Do you know this for a fact, or are you just blowing smoke up people’s arses?
The drivers’ ethnicity is not the issue, people of all colours and creeds screw up from time to time.
I’ll bet this screw up really ruined the drivers’ day though. Expensive no doubt.
Uninsured trailer? that’ll hurt some more.
metalman.
Next time yer in the Lower Mainland, JohnnyBelt, take yer eyes off the road and smile at the semi-drivers down there. Ya might notice a pattern. I did.
Surrey, eh? How about a name to confirm any suspicions?
Bayridge from what I heard… they haul the groceries to Save On, and then if they get a back haul its pulp back to Vancouver. I wonder if the old Premier Clark will be happy to know his product is being hauled by a carrier with no insurance on their trailers….
Unfortunately the drivers race should be associated with this accident. There are many “New Canadians” that sidestep the neccesary steps to becoming a “professional driver”. Don’t you think they should understand the language of the place where they are driving? I’ve come across numbers that can’t even back up.The uninsured trailer, non expiring plates, what can happen? Right? I am a qualified comm truck inspector, and the “favours” asked by these guys, or the “I do not understand”, generally the things they try to pull, many should not be on the road.
Bayridge Transport, Bytruck Transport and BA Holdings are all owned by Bindy Sangara’s
and at one time had lost their safety certificates over violations, effectively cancelling their licenses to operate. I am not sure if they have got them back but they still run over 200 units under different names which still have valid saftey certificates. So the moral here is if you get a bad name with one particular name on the door just change it. Mr Pattison doesn’t care who hauls the freight as long is it gets hauled on time for the cheapest possible price. When one goes broke they will find another.
“Save On” wages
“Save On” safety
“Save On” labour
“Save On” everything
RJ…..I see you’ve made it to the big forum. Anyway, since we don’t be knowing the ethnicity of the driver, cannot we all be getting along ? Let’s Singh, Singh a song…….
“Mr Pattison doesn’t care who hauls the freight as long is it gets hauled on time for the cheapest possible price.”
GASP! The FIEND!! How DARE he!!
Just fyi, EVERY company wants their freight on time for the cheapest possible price…
Pattison has ruined lots of good things for the average BC worker. he makes sure anything left over at the end of the day is in his pocket. Greed greed greed.
And as far as Bayridge goes, they must just keep overlooking their safety infractions. Anything else said would be raciist. I’m sure I don’t see a pattern here at all.
Wasn’t that the way the new canadian driver school worked, load six in the sleeper, charge them $150 a head and then let each one drive a portion of the haul. There, done, trained. Or the old five guys on one license deal. But I am bordering racism, not that I am at all concerned for public safety. And the same outfits in trouble with it over and over.
I hauled chips from Houston to PG for some time and observed many Bayridge trucks on the road. The only one that sticks out in my mind is the one stopped at the Kal tire in Burns Lake that had 4 of his trailer tires burned off on one side. The skid marks coming out from behind those tires were about 30 kms in length out the parking lot and down the Hwy. What kind of safe driver travels that far with smoke billowing out from behind him?
Hey Huh? Don’t forget about the holes that are cut in the cab floorboards to provide washroom facilities? No need to stop that way.
As for financing these rigs, methinks any associated individual can get a fairly reasonable loan at their regular place of worship. Easier than any of those selfish banks we have.
Nothing but rascist comments.
Such class.
Why not place the blame for poorly trained drivers of whatever race on the government?
They make the rules, some creeps have found ways to get around those rules, all in the name of money don’t you know, so why not toughen up the licensing procedure
from beginning to end?
Yeah, it will cost more to get a license, and some people would not make it,
I happen to think that would be okay, if it meant that nincompoops were not given a license to to pilot 60,000 lbs. of tractor trailer on public roads. As for multiple infractions (uninsured trailers) the government makes it easy, with the non expiring plates. Why are the guilty companies still in business?
And I do agree, Pattison’s business ethics, well he does not appear to have any ethics. His life story is one of greed for the almighty dollar, maybe he has found a way to take his riches with him.
Nothing against anyone who has worked hard and made a lot of money, all the power to them, but not all of these self made millionaires seem to care for the little people they have stepped on while reaching for the top.
metalman.
I highly doubt Jimmy Pattison cares what anybody thinks of him. He’s too busy counting his money.
Millionaire? Sorry, pal. Try Billionaire. Around 6 or 7 to be almost precise. Duh!
Racism, eh? It was monetarism that was mentioned too. (Jimmy and his billions) Is that a no-no too?
