New Democrats Call For Release Of Community Living BC Review

Sunday, January 15, 2012 @ 11:22 AM

Prince George, BC – The BC New Democrats are renewing a call for the release of two internal Community Living BC reviews conducted late last year, saying the Liberals continue to stall on measures that would improve the lives of nearly 14-thousand of BC’s most vulnerable citizens.

The NDP says it’s joining families and advocates in a call for an independent review of the CLBC that would investigate: the closure of group homes, oversight, and monitoring of home shares; failures in transitioning young people to community living when they ‘age out’ of the Children’s ministry; and chronic underfunding.

The provincial government’s initial review to look into how CLBC supports and prioritizes the needs of individuals living with developmental disabilities was completed at the end of November.  The second review related to service demand, performance and a cost analysis of CLBC – it was due at the end of December.

"Despite assurances they would fix the crisis they created at CLBC, the Liberals continue to put the lives of families and individuals living with developmental disabilities on hold," says NDP leader Adrian Dix.  "The government needs to release the internal reviews of CLBC immediately and take swift action to alleviate the crisis."

Community living critic, Nicholas Simons, says he has written letters to Social Development Minister Stephanie Cadieux calling for the release of the reviews, with no response.

"The crisis this government created within CLBC is apparent to the entire province," says Simons.  "Undoing the damage and restoring public faith in the community living sector should be one of the top priorities of a government that promised to put families first."

Christy Clark has to get permission from her corporate string-pullers before anything can be released.

http://powellriverpersuader.blogspot.com/2012/01/christy-clark-unqualified-uneducated.html

Anything that Crysty Clark could possibly say hasn’t changed from the Gordon Campbel regime so I wouldn’t hold my breath because it’s going it’s to taked a change in government to get the changes needed for the seniors and it is comming.

The Power River Persuader strikes again!

But don’t worry. Your saviours, the NDP will be in power soon. Tax and spend time is not far away now.

Power=Powell if anybody cares.

The Stump speaks again, no input, just slagging people`s comments.

Sad, very sad indeed.

BC Liberals rip-up contracts illegally again, same old same old.

Christy Clark Campbell needs her Federal appointment too.

More social engineering from the Liberals. Just look what they did for child poverty in BC! The only question that remains is “How low can they go?”

I hate to break it to you, but cutting and pasting links you found on the internet is hardly meaningful input, but keep trying.

The NDP were the kings of social engineering back in the 90’s. I wonder if they’ll continue?

I hate to break it to you Johnny but the internet is about connecting, it`s about linking stories, linking people.

The poorest person in Africa, China or even Canada can go online and link to Harvard university, can read stories and articles from around the world, from any source.

Unfortunately you use the internet to slag contributers..

I could care less if you put up links to stories, if I didn`t like them or disagreed with the stories you posted(you posted no links) my criticism would come in the form of facts, or links to countering views.

But you Johnny accuse me and others of making up videos, committing fraud, those are blatant lies coming from you.

Yes indeed, I don`t like what the BC Liberals have done, child poverty, big problems in CLBC, selling BC Rail when they said they wouldn`t, the $17 million dollar trial and cover-up, the deficit lies, the HST lies, call me old fashioned, when you say you are or say you aren`t going to do something I expect they/Politicians should keep their word.

Your two comments on this thread are a perfect example of what you do Johnny, it`s not constructive, no one forces you to read or go to any links posted.

Good Day

Thanks criminalmind. We all cannot wait until your saviours come back and we have double digit unemployment rates again. Maybe we cam put those Federal transfer payments that we will get for being a “have not” province towards social programs.
Sense links are important for you, here:
http://www.howtocleanyourmomsbasement.com

Criminalmind ….

It is one thing to express an opinion with some explanation which comes from one’s own thoughts on a topic, it is another to post a link which does not relate to a short comment which is unrelated to the link, or at least, the relationship is not explained.

The link you provided is a newspaper article which states the following:

“The government told pharmacists employed by health authorities — the bulk of whom work in hospitals — late last Friday it is cancelling a TEMPORARY WAGE INCREASE it began offering in 2006 in an effort to help recruit people into hard-to-fill positions. The reduction will take effect from April 1, 2012.”

It goes on with:
“In an interview Wednesday, Health Minister Mike de Jong said the increase has helped address the vacancy problem, and that in most areas of the province the temporary lift is no longer required. (Pharmacists in the Northern Health Authority will continue getting the adjustment, he said.)”

And finally:
“The contract with hospital pharmacists expires March 31, 2012, and de Jong said union negotiators are welcome to address the issue at the table.”

So, over to you criminalmind. I want to see if you can explain how how a TEMPORARY lift is ripping up a contract.

Interesting, as you say, we are a “have Province” under the BC Liberals, perhaps you can explain why our BC debt has gone from $28 billion in 2000 to $65 billion in 2012, and there`s that little matter of $80 billion in off the books debt, P3s, IPPs, BC Hydro and BC Ferry debt..

BC Debt doubles, hmmm, something ain`t right.

Cheers

Glad to oblige, the BC Liberals ctore up a contract, illegally…and this is from that very same story..Cut n pasted..

“The move has angered many hospital pharmacists, who say they took jobs with health authorities in part because of the increased level of compensation.

“We’re outraged by it, and we think that it is also in contravention of our collective agreement,” said Jeanne Meyers, executive director of labour relations and legal services for the Health Sciences Association, which represents pharmacists that are employed by health authorities.

“There was no disclosure. We don’t think it’s bona fide.”

Meyers said the wage cut amounts to between nine and 14 per cent, which for some could mean a reduction of more than $10,000 per year.

“In many cases, the only reason they have taken positions as hospital pharmacists in British Columbia is because those market adjustments made the wages that were paid at least close to being competitive with both the private sector and other jurisdictions,” she said.

“If the wage rates are going to drop, they’re not going to be staying and so we’re going to be right back in the old recruitment and retention cycle that we were in before. It’s short sighted, ill considered and we’re outraged by it.”

I think you left out the most important parts Gus, BC offered X to fill a need, when the need was filled the BC Liberals(without telling or asking)took X away, which will result in the same problem again!

It relates directly to the CLBC story..

Cheers

Criminalmind:

“There was no disclosure. We don’t think it’s bona fide.”

The operative word is “think”. They do not think it is bone fide. That is quite different from “it is not bone fide as provided for in clause 2.4(c)”

So tell me, based on the actual contract which may or may not have had an addendum to it, or an MOU at the time of the TEMPORARY adjustment, what is you LEGAL argument?

I ask for a legal argument because you went there when you said “BC Liberals rip-up contracts illegally”.

If you can’t prove it legally, then be a man enough to change you accusations.

Let`s see…BC Liberal gag law ruled illegal.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/10/19/bc-gag-law-appeal.html

Supreme court ruled what the BC Liberals did to teachers to be illegal.

http://www.quesnelobserver.com/news/120363784.html

Canada Supreme court rules Gordon Campbell tearing up the HEU contract illegal

http://www.bcfed.com/issues/Bill_29

And the BC courts ruled BC Liberal drunk driving laws are illegal too, though they granted them time to fix it.

I won`t change any accusations, the courts will deal with it, so will the electorate.

But if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck..

Good Day

Thank you.

Now that I understand that you capacity to argue is miniscule if non existent and you simply have an opinion which you cannot defend using your own thinking process, I know what weight to give to your opinion when I input that into my decision making process. The same weight that any adjudicator would give at a hearing …. zilch.

;-)

There you go gus, put that in your Liberal crack pipe and smoke it!

To stay on the topic rather than attempting to diverge the issue, I add one more thing.

To me, temporary means it does not go on forever. I know, some people struggle with the meaning of words.

I offer a job for $5,000 more than people everywhere else get doing the same job.

That offer is a temporary one. The purpose is to give people who choose that option a chance to earn more on a temporary basis. If this means that some will leave at the end of that, so be it. It is their choice. But some may learn to like the location they would not have ever given consideration otherwise.

The key to me, is that a new contract starts when this TEMPORARY regional incentive is removed. There is all the chance in the world to negotiate a regional allowance on which is not temporary, or to negotiate a temporary incentive allowance with a fixed period to it. In fact, the union would be doing their due diligence to see which one is required to be effective on a continuing basis by polling those who have participated in the program.

Do I sense a little sour grapes Gus?

Like I said before in a different comment thread, it wouldn`t matter what information I put up, what facts, what tragedy I exposed, you are stuck in a political mindset..

So I won`t debate you.

Let me put it this way Gus, there is nothing the BC Liberals could do that would change your vote, nothing, no matter what atrocities they commit you would vote for them..

And for the record, I haven`t mentioned any political party, BC Conservative, BC Green party, BC Marijuanna party, refederation party, BC First party or BC NDP.

Good Day

The Ministry of Health says there are 780 pharmacists employed by health authorities, up from 630 in 2006.
It says that since 2006, these pharmacists have received wage increases totalling 12.5 per cent.
WITH THE TEMPORARY MARKET ADJUSTMENT INCLUDED, THE MINISTRY SAID, THE TOTAL WAGE INCREASE FOR PHARMACISTS FROM 2006 HAS BEEN 28.9 PER CENT.

Yes, that is what it say …….. 28.9% versus 12.5% without.

All from your taxes ….. Now that is nice of the BCLiberals …… NOT in my books. Sound stupid to me. Did they not realize they would have tough negotiations coming up as a result. I would like to know what went through their minds at the time.

I am not driven by political ideology, unlike some on here. I am driven by what I consider to be rational and competent and I do not care which quarter of the political spectrum it comes from.

Let`s just put up the entire article and let others decide what`s right

VICTORIA — Pharmacists who work in hospitals across British Columbia are about to be handed a wage cut of up to 14 per cent, the provincial government has decided.

The government told pharmacists employed by health authorities — the bulk of whom work in hospitals — late last Friday it is cancelling a temporary wage increase it began offering in 2006 in an effort to help recruit people into hard-to-fill positions. The reduction will take effect from April 1, 2012.

In an interview Wednesday, Health Minister Mike de Jong said the increase has helped address the vacancy problem, and that in most areas of the province the temporary lift is no longer required. (Pharmacists in the Northern Health Authority will continue getting the adjustment, he said.)

“At a time when revenues to government are down, and we are facing challenges, finding cost savings in a way that doesn’t compromise service levels to the public is a priority,” he said on Wednesday.

“I think you will hear in the weeks and months ahead that that challenge, and addressing that challenge, will reveal itself during the course of negotiations as well.”

The contract with hospital pharmacists expires March 31, 2012, and de Jong said union negotiators are welcome to address the issue at the table.

“In the view of the ministry, the adjustment is no longer required to address the recruiting issue. If the employee representatives take a different view, they are free to bring that argument to the negotiating table.”

The move has angered many hospital pharmacists, who say they took jobs with health authorities in part because of the increased level of compensation.

“We’re outraged by it, and we think that it is also in contravention of our collective agreement,” said Jeanne Meyers, executive director of labour relations and legal services for the Health Sciences Association, which represents pharmacists that are employed by health authorities.

And it`s my opinion that Mike De Jong is less than honest when it comes to facts, after all, it was De Jong who tried to explain away the Basi/Virk pay-off..He was indeed Attorney General, and Solicitor General at the time Basi/Virk were granted the $5million dollar Sweet Deal.

So where is the illegal part that you claim, Mr cut n paste?

Hey Gus…I didn`t notice any Caps-locked in that story when I read it, you wouldn`t be screaming and yelling at the computer would ya?

It`s unhealthy to get that angry, and besides, we wouldn`t want you to have to engage an angry pharmacist on medication, sedatives, muscle relaxers, physcho-tropic drugs…

Cheers

crimninalmind …. not very inventive of you ….

If you know anything about computers, you know that this site is not set up to allow for html formatted fonts … thus no colours, italics, underlining, bolding, font sizes, various font styles, etc.

Thus “shouting” as you call using all upper case letters is the quickest way to emphasize …..

It would me nice if you could stay on topic….. but I keep on being reminded by you actions that you are not able to do that …… ;-)

criminalmind … it would be nioe if you could ast least set up your links properly using html code as described at the bottom of each of these text windows ….

look down ….. look way down …. LOL

To include links within your comment, enclose the address in and tags. For example: http://www.opinion250.com

hey …. it just daned on me, that to emphasize something, one just needs to use the link html code ….. LOL

would you believe dawned instead of daned….

Nah, I prefer to just cut n paste, I know Johnnybelt thinks I`m superman in writing every story and making every youtube video in the world but when it comes to computers I`m just average.

Anywho, Everyone here seems to be able to read, view, play what I post, including you Gus.

Most sites allow easy links, maybe Opinion250 will upgrade.

Cheers

This is just a site for Gus and criminalmind to rant. Every government in BC, in the last 40 years, has lied to us and stolen from us. Thay are all very far from the “right honorable” title that goes with being elected. If we don’t stop voting for the “same old pigs at the trough”, we will never see democracy again in this Province. The end

And they wonder why there’s voter fatigue.

CriminalMind, You are a laugh and a half, it’s about time someone got under Gus, Jonnybelt and Interceptors skin.

And yes I think Gus was really yelling at you with those CAPS. LOL LOL LOL

Thanks Mr. Hammy…

I know I haven`t many friends here, and, as you can see I comment on so few stories, only one`s I feel for, on the Environment and on political malfeasance.

Yes, Gus was yelling, Johhny yells a-lot too.

My friend Ross K at the Pacific Gazetter, he turned me on to the greatest blogger of all time, I haven`t his name in front of me and I`ll try and get you the story..

Anyway, this blogger was black and a Democrat, he learned early on that arguing with Republicans was pointless, he decided to ignore their strawman arguments like abortion and the like, he just stuck to his talking points and ignored them, it drove them crazy..

Cheers

@Hammy, his name was Steve Gilliard, the greatest progressive blogger of all time..Here is the story..

About Yesterday

GOP-approved

Yesterday was an amazing day, in that the trolls were met and faced down. I can’t say I’ve ever been this impressed with a group of posters before.

So there’s no confusion, let me state outright that I think Jonah Goldberg and Rich Lowry are racists. Now, they’re not the cross burning kind, but their ongoing contempt for the state and intelligence of black people is so obvious and clear cut, their denials are, at best, comical. They, like so many white people before them, want to pick who will influence and lead black people with no idea of what black people think or expect. Anyone who praises Charles Murray and says black people should support social security theft because they die earlier, has no respect for black people. Just because they don’t curse black people doesn’t mean they like them. We do know the difference.

Goldberg fucked up because he didn’t realize how silly he would look calling a black man a racist. Then when he got hammered, he had to say I looked silly. Well, Atrios proved who was silly yesterday.

The reason they reacted like scalded cats is not because they care about Armstrong Williams, Goldberg couldn’t wait to attack him, but because being a racist is the one thing no American wants to be called. Racists are ignorant, cross burning idiots in the popular imagination. Well, no. They can have a deep, abiding contempt for black people, black society and black morays, but they’re not racist because they don’t wear sheets.

They keep telling us how bad the Democrats treat black people, as if a party which made Trent Lott a leader, has that level of credibility with anyone who isn’t white. Their contempt for black people shines from their words and deeds and what is so insulting is that they don’t think we’re bright enough to notice.

However, the real test wasn’t about Williams. It’s about Lorin Jones, the black Republican in Matt Taibbi’s Rolling Stone story I reposted yesterday. Not one of the trolls had a word to say about the contemptible way he was treated by the local Bush campaign. No comments.

Why?

Because they don’t care enough to denounce it.

He wasn’t an opportunist or a grifter, but someone of genuine belief. Yet, when he went to the GOP HQ, he was treated shamefully and left to fend on his own.

What amazes me about conservative arrogance is that there’s this idea that I would debate my racial views with them. Which I will not do, because they have absolutely no credibility to challenge them. We might as well stand around discussing tampons. Lowry and Goldberg aren’t worthy of debate or even any more energy than this.

Time and again, I have seen conservatives act as if black people are too stupid to pick up a newspaper. Or watch CNN. That we would actually consider their arguments as if we were small children and followed the Democratic Party because we didn’t know any better. The idea that black people make complex, thought out political decisions seems to be alien to them. That black support for Democratic candidates is not a random or ignorant choice, but as complex as their choices. Not that they would respect that, since they hardly respect anything black people say or do. I’ve read both the Nation and NR on and off since the age of 16. I know exactly what they run in both magazines. However, it seems Goldberg was stunned by that little fact. Do I read every issue? Of course not. But I have read it over years.

What stunned me with the trolls was the idea that they could call me a racist and I would care. They came from NRO and Instapundit. I assumed that at best they were projecting. Conservatives make the assumption that liberals care what they think and will react to it.

There’s a tendency for liberals to try and be fair, to consider other viewpoints, so we get baited by them in debates on terms that they set. I’m going to act on the following: I don’t care what conservatives think. The NRO Corner thinks I’m a racist, I don’t care, their opinions on race are meaningless.

Instacracker doesn’t like what I say?

That’s the purpose of the exercise.

I want conservatives to read this site and come away steaming. I don’t want them to think they will like a word I will say here. I don’t want them to think I will consider their opinions or viewpoints. I want them to think: boy he doesn’t like conservatives and really, really doesn’t care what we say.

I’m tired of people acting like these people can be reasoned with or talked to. They don’t want to talk, they want to drive us away into a corner and ridicule our ideas.

I’m not writing to make conservatives happy. I want them to hate my opinions. I’m not interested in debating them. I want to stop them.

Oh, I’ll have a lot more to say about payola, but I have to listen to black radio first. That should be fun.
