CNC Gets Research Funding

Prince George, B.C.- The College of New Caledonia is embarking on its first applied research project.
The college has received nearly $200 thousand dollars from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada for a project that will try to identify which species of trees will be best adapted to the future climate of the Prince George region.
“Tree species traditionally planted here may not thrive in the changed climate of the near future,” said John Neumann, CNC NRET instructor and team leader. “Corresponding changes in soil moisture are anticipated, so a second aspect of the project will be to investigate the reliability of oak fern as an indicator of changes in soil moisture.
While research already exists in the province looking at which tree species will perform well in the changing climate, CNC’s project will look more closely at how these candidate species will perform on a range of different sites in the Prince George area.
CNC is partnering with Dunkley Lumber, PRT-Red Rock, and the City of Prince George for the project. Most of the research is being done at CNC’s Research Forest and a small portion at PRT-Red Rock.

Are you kidding me. They can’t even tell what the climate (weather) is going to be tomorrow, let alone what the climate will be in the future. Another waste of taxpayers dollars attributed to the scam they call global warming.
CNC I suggest you read this, changing climate, cold

All you have to do is mention climate change and the money just rolls in.
Some researcher up at UNBC got a tidy grant to study melting glcaciers, hey dude they been melting sine the little ice age, 200 years ago.
That scam carbon tax at least cooled us of for a few days, I was worried about boiling.
They do mention soil moisture and that change is real. With all of the dead pine not drinking up thier share the water table in the bush is much higher. Perhaps what was once prime pine location will now be prime spruce or fir location, etc. Maybe thats what they are after?
Well, I used to tree plant, and they have been planting pine where spruce naturally grew and planted spruce where pine naturally grew. And that has been going on for as long as I can recall, so I doubt this study will tell them anything they don’t already know.
Hmmmmm, I can do it for half the price.
You drive to Williams Lake area and what do you see. Ponderosa Pine and Fir trees.
Seems to me we are spending way too much money on study and no money left for doing.
Mother Nature, listen to her. she will tell you what trees should be planted where
Fir likes southern exposure and rocky dry areas…pine likes dry flats…spruce likes wetter soils
Study finished
Lombardy poplar likes Italy. :-)
