Northern Lights Festival Shines

Prince George, B.C. – This winter’s Northern Lights Festival in Connaught Hill Park was popular among local residents and managed to turn a modest profit. Myles Tycholis, Manager Event and Civic Centre with the City of Prince George, met with Tourism Prince George CEO Aiden Kelly this week to go over the final stats for the event.

There were 2589 paid vehicles that went through the gates at 10 dollars a pop, six buses for groups such as seniors (all of them complimentary) and about 100 promotional passes were issued for media types and others. Last year 2458 paid vehicles visited the display.

Tycholis says this year’s festival produced a profit of 7-thousand-600-dollars, even though it ran for 4 weeks instead of 5 the previous year. Expenditures this time around totaled 18-thousand-dollars which covers such things as marketing, improvements to the light display and security. All staff time involving the city and Tourism PG is provided in kind.

“All of this show’s profit will be re-invested to improve the light display for next year” says Tycholis. “We want to build on the show to provide an even better event for the public.” Preliminary planning for the next show, expected at the beginning of December, should start in a couple of months time in a co-ordinated effort involving Parks and Tourism Prince George.
