Pat Bell Neither In Favour Nor Against Enbridge

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 @ 1:59 PM
Prince George, B.C. – Minister of Jobs Tourism and Innovation, Pat Bell says the move by US President Barrack Obama to cancel the Keystone pipe line proposed by Trans Canada pipe line will really ramp up the pressure for the Enbridge Northern Gateway project.  That is  the  proposed twin pipe line from Alberta through the Rockies and onto the coast  in BC.
Bell says” Alberta wants to diversify its market for the sale of oil ,  and Asia is the next logical place to look at”.
A meeting to allow interveners  to be heard will be held in Prince George tonight at 6pm.  The Joint Reveiw Panel  session will take place at the Ramada Hotel.
Bell says “I am neither in support or against the project . I will wait to see what the review findings are before making any decision on the project".
A large part of the pipe line passes through the constituency which Bell represents.

What a coward Pat Bell is..He`s waiting for the corporate breeze to decide for him.

Way to show leadership Pat Pledge pin Bell.

I guess Christy Clark`s new Alberta Enbridge lobbyist chief of staff hasn`t given Pat Bell his marching orders yet.

Somebody please wind up the big key that`s attached to Pat Bell`s back.

To busy setting up that nice retirement package you get when you retire to worry about little old voters like us I guess.

Way to represent your voters.

“Way to represent your voters.”

I’m waiting for the review as well so yes, in this instance he is representing me. Thank you Mr. Bell.

“Bell says” Alberta wants to diversify its market for the sale of oil”

Ummmmm, no! it’s not Alberta that wants to diversify it’s market it’s the corporations producing/selling it that do.

Why wait for the review? Does anyone think the review is going to say there will never be an oil spill after this project is built? Are they going to say peoples lives will carry on just like normal after the innevitable oil spills that will happen after this project is built? Are they going to say there will never be any ecosystems or wildlife destroyed after the oils spills?

Because in reality that is the only issue surrounding this project and should be the only factor to consider in any decision.

Have to agree with faxman. If Pat wants to reserve his opinion and wait for the result of the review, so be it. He has NO decision making power in this just like all other MLAs of either party.

Why should the people of this province allow the innevitable destruction of our environment from any oils spills, just to supply oil to China to make the oil companies richer and greedier than they already are?

I was always told when I was a kid that if I kept digging a hole I would eventually get to China. Thats where the pipeline should go.

“I am neither in support or against the project . I will wait to see what the review findings are before making any decision on the project”.

Now if that’s not a lie as I situate on the common, then I don’t know…

Wishy washy Bell

If the pipeline does happen an it will, I want my cut!

LOL. Good luck. And Harper owe’s me a new mobile home.

As if the Canadian people had no idea how dictatorially Harper would rule once he finally got his super majority!

The verdict of this review is a foregone conclusion! Anybody watched the recent Mansbridge-Harper interview?

Dragon, alberta and Canada will benifit from this pipeline. Not just greedy producers. You realize this industry is one of the biggest employers accross the country. Do you have any idea how a functioning economy works?

BC will receive about $131 million dollars over 16 years.

The University of Calgary’s School of Public Policy issued an analysis Thursday concluding that with expanded pipeline access to U.S. and Asian markets, Canada’s gross domestic product would jump $132 billion in 2010 dollars between 2016 and 2030, generating $27 billion in federal, provincial and municipal taxes and 649,000 person-years of employment.

But the study also shows that the overwhelming economic benefit of pipeline expansion to B.C. goes to Alberta.

The opening of the Asian market would trigger $10.5 billion in gains and 52,000 person-years of employment in Canada, but almost $10 billion of that wealth and 44,000 person-years go to Alberta.

Ontario would get $286 million and 4,000 person-years, while B.C. would enjoy $131 million and 2,000 person-years.

The study also “suggests” that B.C. would gain an additional $85 million in GDP and another 1,000 person-years due to increased exports to California if pipelines are built to the West Coast.

We get less than Ontario does and they take zero risk..

Pathetic

Hamburger Pattie should guard against slivers in his rear end, sitting on the fence as he is.
metalman.

For Pat to say he doesn’t have an opinion I think is to say he supports the pipeline, but knows his constituents do not. He is playing politics and not leading IMO.

Pat is following government policy. I believe this pipeline is going to be pushed through no matter how many of us object. It is time to start negotiating a better deal for all British Columbians.

No it won`t be pushed through..Harper will fall, or be taken out forcefully, the choice is still Harper`s as to how it happens.

He can back off and survive, or push and be…

???

Harper is here for the long haul. No election for four years, and then a good possibility he will get re-elected, so we are looking at eight years. So get used to the idea of having him around.

Even if he lost the next election whatever Government that got elected would have to deal with this problem. Its not the Prime Minister, its what do you do with the oil?

If you shut down the oil sands you would put 50,000 people out of work. So we have to keep that in mind. This oil will go south to the USA via Keystone Pipeline, after the US elections,. or to Kitimat. We could probably work out some solution for it to go East via pipeline, as Eastern Canada presently imports over 1 million barrels of oil a day from Norway.

In any event the problem will be solved. As previously mentioned by someone, if push came to shove, we could move it via rail car, or we could build a huge refinery in Alberta, and export the gasoline via rail or truck, or whatever.

Pickets on the fence not bother yer nether regions, Pat? They would me.

I, too, think Harper will be around for quite a long time to come. The other Parties simply have nothing better to offer that can be shown to work any better. Given the largely artificial financial constraints imposed on EVERY government, Harper hasn’t really done a bad job. You wouldn’t get anything better from any of the other Parties, not until they’re prepared to throw off those constraints. Which NONE of them are.

In all likelihood, the US decision against Keystone is a behind the scenes put up game to spur the approval of Enbridge. Once that’s been secured, Keystone will go ahead, too.

The oil won’t go to Eastern Canada to replace what’s currently imported.

There has to be a so-called favourable Balance of Trade internationally to make it seem as if the financial system is properly functioning internally.

As it stands right now, we, in effect, HAVE TO import another country’s money to enable our internal finances to be more fully self-liquidating.

We currently (think that we) need export credits from international oil customers as much as Norway does from us. It seems stupid, but if you study it you’ll find a lot of things are totally mis-represented financially when it comes to international trade.

Cancelling Keystone won’t have any bearing on what happens with the Enbridge pipeline. In my opinion, if the native bands in BC that are most affected won’t accept any deal, then it ends there. If they disregard them you will see continual blockades, work stoppages and it won’t just be natives doing it. They won’t be able to arrest or stop as many people that will get involved in the cause.
