Spruce Kings Drop Second Straight

Sunday, January 22, 2012 @ 4:36 PM
Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings are on a bit of a slide in the BC Hockey League.

Following a 4-2 loss on home ice to Chilliwack Friday night the Kings dropped a 3-1 decision to the league-leading Vees in Penticton Sunday afternoon.

There were a couple of stories in the game. First, the outstanding goaltending in the Kings’ net by Ty Swabb, who made 30 saves and earned the game’s first star. The other tale was the Kings taking 10 of 17 minor penalties, three of them to scoring sensation Paul De Jersey who also took a misconduct late in the third period.

The Vees grabbed a 1-0 lead in the opening period, the Kings tied it at one apiece after two on a goal from Myles Fitzgerald in the middle frame, but Penticton got one early and one late in the third to sew it up.   Penticton leads the league with 78 points while the Kings sit at 47 in the Interior Conference.

The Spruce Kings host the Vernon Vipers for a pair at the Coliseum next Saturday and Sunday.
