Evacuation Alert for Some Along Bulkley River

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 @ 11:03 AM
Telkwa, B.C. – Three homes along the Bulkley River are under evacuation alert due to potential flooding.
The Regional District of Bulkley Nechako issued the alert Tuesday afternoon for homes on Bourgon Road six kilometres east of Telkwa because of ice jams forming on the river.

The district issued a public notice to residents along the Bulkley after ice jams started forming during the cold snap.

The RDBN says it will give residents as much notice as possible prior to evacuation, but its asking people to prepare by taking the following steps:

· Monitoring your local radio station and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako website, www.rdbn.bc.ca  for information on an evacuation order.

· Locating all family members or co-workers and plan to meet at the ReceptionCentre outside the evacuation area, should an evacuation be called.

· Gathering essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (i.e.insurance), immediate care needs for dependants and, if you choose, keepsakes (photographs, etc). Have these items readily available for quick departure.

· Arranging accommodation for family if possible. In the event of an evacuation a Reception Centre will be opened to meet the needs of the evacuees.

· Preparing to move any disabled persons and/or children.

· Moving pets and livestock to a safe area.

· Arranging to transport your household members or co-workers in the event of an evacuation order. If you need transportation assistance from the area please call (250) 692-3195 or 1-800-320-3339.

just wondering if this is the first time this river and all the other rivers in this province flood. what is this costing all of the tax payers?
if you want to live on or near a river check the flood history and don’t rely on everyone else to look after you. just my thoughts for what they are worth.
