Smart Meter Controversy Continues
Monday, January 30, 2012 @ 3:49 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The Smart Meter controversy will land on the doorstep of the B.C. Provincial Health Officer’s doorstep today.
The directors of StopSmartMeters.ca will be delivering two documents to Dr. Perry Kendall.
One is a letter from the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. Written to the California Public Utilities Commission, this letter called for a halt to wireless smart meter installations on all houses and schools in that State.
The second document is a report written by the Santa Cruz Public Health Officer which calls into question the validity of using the FCC guidelines Safety Code 6 ( which are the same as Health Canada’s) in making claims that Smart Meters are safe.
The StopSmarters.ca directors say that report has lead to the Administrative Officer for the County of Santa Cruz in California to recommend residents of that county be allowed to remove Smart Meters and replace them with an analog meter, and that a temporary moratorium be placed on the installation of smart meters in Santa Cruz County.
“This report fully validates all of the concerns that are currently being raised by the citizens of BC”, says Walter McGinnis, vice president of StopSmartMeters.ca. “The fact that we cannot find one single member of the legislative assembly to represent us, to speak for us, only reinforces why we must have an initiative vote on smart meters,” says McGinnis.
Comments
I agree with the initiative vote. I think anytime we have a potential hazard to our health forced on us that it changes an expected right and should at minimum be voted on by the public, rather than forced upon society by a bureaucracy with unpure motives.
Floride is another issue that should be voted on by referendum if our elected officials will not recognize the dangers.
IMHO
Its all about money.. BC Hydro is lying if they say there is any other reason. They can now use the new Tier 1 Teir 2 charging scam. They say its for grow ops and outages but please..how stupid do they think we are.
Can’t wait to get my smartmeter.
Get over it folks.
Bit late now, most houses have them. Are they really going to put the old ones back… Doubt that..
Smart meters or Site C dam? I’ll take the smart meters… which would you chose?
The vocal minority speaks again.
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
A $1-billion waste of money, taxpayers picking up an enormous tab — for no benefit to them – and BC Liberal friends getting big contracts and smart meters are the dumbest idea yet from a government full of them. Smart meters will cost us $930 million up front, not reduce energy usage, not save the environment.
But what is certain is that smart meters are already benefitting a select group of BC Liberal Party-connected insiders who have been awarded lucrative smart meter contracts with BC Hydro.
Would anyone really expect the liberals to consult the public on anything before acting.
Remember the read my lips 500 million budget deficit that ended up to be 2 billion, the HST, the sale of the BCR.
Expecting the liberals to be concerned for Joe citizen taxpayer is a stretch.
Thank you for mentioning fluoride again!
“The mutagenicity* of fluoride supports the
conclusion that fluoride is a probable
human carcinogen. An important
toxicologic consideration is that a toxic
substance stores at the same place it exerts its toxic activity.”
Dr. William Marcus, Environmental Protection Agency Scientist
Prince George adds sodium fluoride to our
tap water – not natural calcium fluoride!
Sodium fluoride (hexafluorosilicic acid) is
an impure waste by-product of industry,
polluted with lead, mercury and arsenic.
* A mutagen is a physical or chemical agent that changes the genetic material, usually DNA of an organism and thus increases the frequency of mutations above the natural background level. As many mutations cause cancer, mutagens are therefore also likely to be carcinogens.
“Floride is another issue that should be voted on by referendum if our elected officials will not recognize the dangers.”
Actually, the city of Prince George NEVER had a fluoridation referendum! The leagl requirement to have a referendum was side stepped by Ramsey and Boone helping Kinsley to have a special act passed in Victoria. Therefore, NO referendum is required to turn the fluoridation off!
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
Thank you!
The big selling feature used for these meters is that Hydro will know when the power goes out and they will be able to respond faster. The response time I agree may be quicker but the time to restore the power will take as long as it takes.
I had contact with anothe rposter a few days ago when i told the story of power going off in Pine View, some I know who live out there called Hydro after two hours of no power and the reply was “You have no Power”. The other story was that there where two times when the pwer went off one for two hours and the other for three, I ask you this could it really be possible that those times would have been shorter because of a smart meter. It appears to me that this system has a few bugs.
PrinceGeorge there is a question that I have about this fluoride issue that I hope you may have the answer to. Who gets paid to supply the fluoride and who pays for it. Is there a contract between the city and who ever supplies this stuff or does the Prov Government just supply it. Forgive my naive attitude but i seems to me that this could be a line of protest if it costing us money.
More Waste of Money, The other Day Hydro hang a Transformer and Receiver Transmitter on a Pole halve Way up our Road, yes this will act as the Hub for our Area , if Hydro wanted to do without Meter Readers, we could have done it like in Manitoba, you read you own Meter and Phone the Readings in, a 1 Billion Saving but this is BC and you know what BC stands for.
A smart meter only works where there is cell coverage. Hydro may know of an outage faster but will response time change, same manpower?
Rather have smart meters than sit c, where did that come from? Site c has to be built to cover generation shortfalls from the independent power producers to which Hydro was forced to sign multi-billion dollar contracts by the fiberals. It is these contracts that is driving up your hydro bill. Same thing happening in Ontario. Don’t want site c then build 4th generation nuclear.
If we’re concerned about smart meters we should also be concerned about cell phones and wireless internet signals as well. Where’s the lobby to get rid of those?
Supposed to of had my Meter changed a week ago-Hydro still hase not showed up.
So we know at least one thing is not faster
Do you realize that in addition to fluoridating water, why, there are studies underway to fluoridate salt, flour, fruit juices, soup, sugar, milk, ice cream? Ice cream? Children’s ice cream!
Littlebuds, The City of Prince George buys it from a supplier in Edmonton. The cost to the city is approximately $80,000 per year, as told to me. It is trucked in by tanker truck as a hazardous material transport.
It is the most reactive corrosive compound in chemistry and it must be handled with the utmost caution. It is usually sold by the fertilizer industry. Fluorine gas cannot be allowed to escape to the air, so the exhausts are wet scrubbed and sold. It is very convenient for the industry to sell it because it cannot be dumped in landfill or into a river or lake.
It is of industrial grade, usually polluted with traces of lead, mercury and arsenic.
The fluoride in toothpaste and dental use is supposedly of pharmaceutical grade.
Williams Lake recently discontinued fluoridation after considering the latest scientific research evidence and also the cost to Williams Lake of close to $100,000 annually.
The City of Prince George pays for the hexafluorosilicic acid (fluoride) and the maintenance of the equipment, plus some man hours.
The fact that the city paid over half a million dollars about ten years ago for a brand new fluoridation system may (just a guess) have something to do with the reluctance and unwillingness to re-visit the fluoridation issue.
Moncton discontinued fluoridation recently after engaging the citizens for input and the mayor and council examining all available pro and contra evidence. They also invited the Health authorities and dental profession to participate in a debate, but these people declined, taking (imho) a very arrogant and dismissive attitude, namely that discussing the fluoride issue would actually give it a credibility it does not (in their opinion, perhaps) deserve.
The province is 97% fluoridation free already! Prince George belongs to the remaining 3% which still *medicates* the water.
Are the 97% disadvantaged in any way? Of course not!
Chlorination is a method to treat water. Fluoridation is a method to medicate PEOPLE, not water!
It must be stopped so every person can have a choice!
PrinceGeorge, which “health food” store do you own?
JohnnyBelt, we have opportunity to choose either to use or not the cell phone and internet services, for smart meters we are forced to use it.
Duffer, the answer is: I don’t own one! What exactly does your question have to do with the intentional medication of our city water?
“…for smart meters we are forced to use it.”
Ditto for the polluted water! Ever tried showering with the cold water from a 5 gallon purified water jug???
It is very sad, but I try not to drink too much water because of the flouride in it. Water is a must, but to drink something with this crap in it makes me sick. I do wonder if the bottles water is better though or not?
“JohnnyBelt, we have opportunity to choose either to use or not the cell phone and internet services, for smart meters we are forced to use it.”
Just because you don’t use a cell phone or wireless internet doesn’t mean you’re not exposed to the frequencies some believe are harmful. Smart meters are a drop in the bucket compared to those sources.
PG, I seem to remember in one of your rants that you can buy fluoride pills or whatever in stores if you want, so I just thought you might own one.
Thanks PG more tham I expected but good to know
Even the dentist office gives you the choice if you would like a flouride rinse after you get a cleaning.
We have the rite too choose and dentists are respecting that rite.
Just had another thought, if the city is paying for it then really we are paying for it. I wonder if the city has signed a long term contract with this Edmonton supplier. Might be some thing worth to find out
You deserve to let the people decide in a referemdum on fluoridation.
Interestingly, the politicians often align with the big money side where these industries sell their toxic waste fluoride to commuinties. Most people now know their health will be sacrificed with fluoridation. That is why promoters lose about 80% of all elections held worldwide.
Someday soon people will look back on this outdated practice and wonder how we ever decided to dump this toxic waste fluoride into our drinking water.
See (www.fluoridealert.org ) for the scientific information.
Read the truth produced in the best scientific information on fluoridation here: (www.fluoridealert.org). You will see a petition signed by almost 4000 professionals, including hundreds of dentists, hundreds of doctors, and other medical researchers calling on governments everywhere to stop fluoridation.
There are many large scientific studies there to show that drinking fluoridated water has no positive effect on cavity reduction and to show that it causes cancer, thyroid damage, broken hips from brittle bones, lowered IQ and other health problems.
what’s the connection Fluoride and Smartmeters, I don’t get it, is this someone Pet?
Outwest: “what’s the connection Fluoride and Smartmeters”
Answer: Nothing. PG likes to spam any thread he can with his favourite subject.
“Smart meters are a drop in the bucket compared to those sources.”
Unfortunately that is true!
JB, seems like you delight in calling others who have different opinions from yours *spammers.*
Back to the fluoride. I wholeheartedly agree with jwillie6!
Duffer, healthfood stores don’t sell sodium fluoride pills. Some pharmacies do. They also sell fluoridated toothpaste, for those who want it. It’s everywhere so it does not have to be added to water in the form of hexafluorosilicic acid!

“You will see a petition signed by almost 4000 professionals, including hundreds of dentists, hundreds of doctors, and other medical researchers calling on governments everywhere to stop fluoridation.”
That’s NOT spam!
Some day soon we will have clean water coming out of our taps!
You deserve to let the people decide in a referemdum on fluoridation.

Fluoridation is a Waste of Tax Money
Even if fluoride was helpful to teeth, distributing any drug in drinking water is the most expensive and wasteful method. As a Civil Engineer, I know that people drink only 1/2% (one-half percent) of the water they use. The remaining 99 ½ % of the water with this toxic fluoride chemical (Hexafluorosilicic acid, which is waste material flushed directly from industrial smokestacks) is dumped directly into the environment through the sewer system. The company CEO would be arrested if they dumped this toxic waste into a river. The only way they can do it legally is to run it through the community water systerm first.
For example, for every $1000 of fluoride chemical added to water, $995 would be directly wasted down the drain in toilets, showers, dishwashers, etc., $5 would be consumed in water by the people, and less than $0.50 (fifty cents) would be consumed by children, the target group for this outdated practice.
That would be comparable to buying one gallon of milk, using six-and-one-half drops of it, and pouring the rest of the gallon in the sink.
Fluoridation surely is in contention as the most wasteful government program. Giving away fluoride tablets free to anyone who wants them would be far cheaper and certainly more ethical, because then we would have the freedom to choose which prescription drug we take.

During many decades Health Authorities (I don’t know for how long Northern Health has existed) used to NOT object to the following:
Tobacco smoke
Second hand tobacco smoke
Lead in gasoline
Lead in paint
Asbestos in houses and industry
Asbestos brake linings
Pet killing antifreeze
BPA water bottles and lining in cans
DDT insecticide
Mercury/Silver amalgam dental fillings
Smoke from slash burning
Wood smoke from inefficient stoves
Unrestricted use of herbicides on lawns
…etc.
Well, it is NOT o.k. anymore!
Do they ever apologize for not having acted
sooner, with greater caution, to protect the consumers?
No! Of course not!
The same will happen with the issue of intentional doping of tap water with a substance which is NOT THE SAME as the naturally occurring water – the water in NATURE!
Calcium fluoride occurs in Nature! Sodium fluoride is chemically DIFFERENT from calcium fluoride and it is a inustrial waste product, contaminated with lead, mercury and arsenic!
Can’t fool Mother Nature!!!
Topping up one kind of fluoride with a completely different kind of fluoride is like topping up the gasoline tank of your
vehicle with diesel, just because BOTH are hydrocarbon based fuels!
Your engine won’t run. It might even get damaged beyond repair!
Your body may be able to cope with the accumulated sodium fluoride over many years – but, then again, it may NOT!
Why suffer from often unexplainable chronic ailments of one kind or another if sodium fluoride can be ruled out as a suspect by simply NOT doping the water with it anymore?
I hate being forced to be an unwilling participant in a needless undemocratic risky mass experiment.
I’d rather have a cavity than cancer, thyroid disease, kidney disease or brittle bones.
“JB, seems like you delight in calling others who have different opinions from yours *spammers.*”
Oh really. Well, maybe you can tell me what fluoride has to do with smart meters? Right. Nothing.
But take heart, you’re not the only spammer in this thread.
Here we go, this is the connection:
The smart meter is being installed WITHOUT my permission.
The sodium fluoride is being added to my water WITHOUT my permission.
Thanks for bringing up fluoride again! I dearly love to *spam* about it! Ridicule is part of the ultimate outcome: Acceptance!
