CN Locomotive Engineers OK New Contract
Prince George, B.C. – News out of Ottawa today that CN’s 1800 locomotive engineers have ratified a new contract .
The new contract will expire in 2014 and provides for a 9% wage increase over the term of the contract as well as improvements to some non-monetary clauses. The union, the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) says grievance procedures and rest time have been improved.
The contract was approved by 95% of the 70% of members who cast a ballot. “This is a historic vote,” said TCRC president Rex Beatty. “The results clearly show our members’ resounding endorsement of this agreement.”
The ratification vote saw the union develop a new electronic voting system that was supervised by an outside firm.
“We used a very different strategy for this bargaining round and it paid off, showing that the Teamsters Union can be both a watchdog for workers and a partner for the employer,” added TCRC president Beatty.
The contract is retroactive to January 1st, 2012.

Well I guess they voted in favour of this contract. From what I have heard, CN Engineers make very good money and they are now receiving a 9% wage increase. Sweet deal for them. Not sure how this is news though.
It’s news because if they did’nt ratify this agreement our fragile Canadian economy would suffer irreparable harm.
I think it’s great news! bornandbred do you just want to hear doom and gloom.
