Oland To Serve As Acting CEO Of Initiatives Prince George

Monday, January 30, 2012 @ 4:46 PM

Prince George, B.C. –  The Board of Directors of Initiatives Prince George has asked Heather Oland to serve as Acting CEO effective tomorrow, as Tim McEwan prepares to leave the local development agency later this month.

McEwan announced his decision to step down earlier today to pursue other opportunities.  Board Chair, Glen Wonders, says IPG’s current Vice-President of Strategic Initiatives was asked to step into an Acting CEO role.

"And she’s accepted that challenge and we’re very grateful for that, and the rest of the team continues on doing the great job that they’re doing," says Wonders.  "It’s business as usual for the corporation and the services that we deliver for the City of Prince George."

Oland joined IPG in early September, but Wonders is confident she’s up to the task.  "Not only am I confident," he says, "She has the full confidence of the board, as well.  She’s very, very capable."

Wonders says it’s too early to say how the post will be filled on a permanent basis.  The Board of Governors plans to meet in the next few weeks and a meeting is also set with the City.

"Our course of action will be determined from those meetings and as we go forward and understand our mandate from the City."

A golden opportunity to fold the tents of IPG.

Any meaningful work that they do can be transferred to the City where it should have been all along. We have been listening to all the great things this organization has done over the years, but the fact of the matter is they have done basically nothing.

Ditto! They sure have an impressive website. It can turn you into a “downtown revitalization” believer even without rose coloured glasses. Anyone know how much money has been returned to the vault under city hall in the form of “dividends” by IPG over the years? I think it is called “return on investment”. “One more thing”, as Columbo would say. All the Prince George who’s who on their list of special ambassadors, do they get paid a stipend annually, (if so how much), if they go to ceremonies where they can rub shoulders and casually say “PG is a good place to do business”, while they are saying their goodbyes to impressionable movers and shakers outside Prince George? Too many questions. Did I say they have a swell website?

“….. as we go forward and understand our mandate from the City.”

hmmm … so the Board, the one which is supposed to be setting the direction of IPG, does not understand that mandate?
