911 Service Knocked Out In Mackenzie

Monday, January 30, 2012 @ 11:16 PM

Prince George, B.C. – A logging truck crashed into a power pole near Mackenzie earlier this evening, severing a fiber optic cable, telephone and hydro lines – affecting 911 service and long distance calls to and from the community.

RCMP are advising residents of Mackenzie and surrounding area to call the Mackenzie detachment directly if they require Police, Fire or Ambulance Services at 250-997-3288.

Media Relations Officer, Corporal Craig Douglass says anyone living outside the community trying to contact family or friends in Mackenzie will hear a busy signal and any outside calls to the Mackenzie detachment will ring through to the North District Operational Communications Centre in Prince George.

Douglass says, "The residents of Mackenzie are still able to make telephone calls within the community.  The expected time that this will be resolved is tomorrow afternoon."

The Corporal says North District OCC received a 911 call advising that the logging truck had hit the utility pole at approximately 5pm this evening.  When Mackenzie officers arrived at the scene, the truck was gone.
