Prince George, B.C. – An absolutely terrible tragedy in Mackenzie this morning. Two young children, boy and girl twins just one-and-a-half-years-old, have perished in a house fire.
North District Media Relations Officer Const. Lesley Smith says Mackenzie RCMP and fire crews responded to a house fire on Kerry Crescent at 7:33 this morning and found the house fully engulfed. There were five members of a family inside the structure. The parents, police and firefighters, as well as neighbours, tried to get into the house to rescue the children who were in a second-floor bedroom but the fire was too aggressive. Both children perished.
Mackenzie Detachment Commander Sgt. Syd Lecky says “This is a tragic loss not only for the family but also for the entire community. Victim Services and a Critical Incident Team are assisting the family, first responders and the community with this devastating situation.”
The investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.

I can only imagine how difficult this tragedy must be for the parents.
May they find peace.

My heart goes out to the family, friends and community. I can’t imagine the pain all involved are feeling at this time. May you all be strong enough to find peace and acceptance in time.
