Prince George, B.C. – Although she has no direct connections to Burns Lake, a Prince George woman has been so affected by the plight of the community in the wake of last month’s deadly mill fire that she’s been driven to action…
"I kept thinking, ‘How could I help?" says Joël Kress, a local singer with the band, Sound Addiction. "Well, all I’ve got is my voice, so let’s try that."
Kress has organized an evening fundraiser, featuring live music and a silent auction, on Friday, February 24th at the Kinsmen Hall in Prince George. She credits a number of amazing friends with helping her, and says when she approached Mike McGuire at the hall, he was eager to jump on-board.
"As I go around now, I keep hearing from people, ‘I used to live there’, or ‘I know someone who does’," says Kress. "It’s kind of neat the connections that I’m making with people as I’m trying to build this fundraiser."
Kress is also a deejay on CFISM 93.1 FM, she says she’s only been advertising and talking about the event for a couple of days and, already, her phone is ringing off the hook and Facebook is lighting up, so she’s hopeful the 200-seat venue will be sold out.
The fundraiser starts at 8pm and and Sound Addiction will play three sets, with a local deejay donating his services between sets. The Zahirah bellydancing troupe will perform as well.
Tickets are $20 each and are available at Books & Co, The Inn Flower Place, and both locations of Shhhh Gifts, or you can call Joël at 250-981-5987 or Lori at 250-961-5674.
