Prince George, B.C. – Autopsies are scheduled to be performed in Vancouver today on the bodies of two young infants who perished in a house fire in Mackenzie on Tuesday.
The autopsies are expected to confirm that the victims of the tragic fire are 22-month-old twins, a boy and a girl. There were five people in the house when firefighters were sent to the blaze at 7:33 Tuesday morning. The parents and another young child managed to escape, but neither the parents nor firefighters could reach the second-floor bedroom the twins were in due to the ferocity of the fire.
Regional Coroner Donita Kuzma says she has no information that the cause of the fire has yet been determined. In fact she adds that the investigation by fire officials in Mackenzie and Prince George could be lengthy as they try to pinpoint the source of the fire.
Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam says the entire close-knit community in Mackenzie is drawing together to provide both material and emotional support for the family. She reminds those who want to help that a trust fund has been set up at any branch of Scotiabank.
