Spruce Kings Complete Sweep, Gain Ground On Cents

Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings took a pair of games on Coliseum ice this weekend, beating the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 6-4 last night to go with Friday’s 4-3 win over Salmon Arm.

 

The Spruce Kings jumped out to a 3-0 lead on first period goals from Myles Fitzgerald, Jarryd Ten Vaanholt and Paul De Jersey. Salmon Arm got two in the second by they were matched by Ten Vaanholt with his second of the night and a power play goal from Jujhar Khaira. Spruce Kings up 5-2 after two. Fitzgerald scored his second of the game early in the third before Salmon Arm came back with a pair of goals while on the power play, but that was as close as they could get.   Salmon Arm took seven of 12 minor penalties while each team had a 5-minute major as the Kings’ Zack Rassell and the Silverbacks’ Brendan Kennedy dropped the gloves five seconds into the third.   Kirk Thompson recorded the victory with 25 saves while Kurt Williams took the loss, making 35 stops in the Salmon Arm net.

 

The Spruce Kings got some out-of-town help on the night. The victory increased the Kings 3rd-place point total to 54, five points behind the Merritt Centennials who fell 3-1 to Westside. And the Kings now have a 3-point lead over the Chilliwack Chiefs who dropped a 5-3 decision in Trail. Vernon took Alberni 5-2 to move to within two points of the fourth-place Chiefs.

 

The Spruce Kings hit the road next weekend with games Friday and Saturday in Trail before meeting the Silverbacks again in Salmon Arm.
