Prince George RCMP present 2011 crime stats to City Council tonight

Prince George, B.C. – The Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP Detachment will appear in City Council Chambers this evening to highlight the successes of the past year and seek Councillors’ input on the detachment’s 2012 strategic planning process.

Superintendent Eric Stubbs will go over the city’s crime statistics for 2011, which detail significant progress being made on a number of violent crimes. (click here for previous story)

Stubbs’ report also goes over the targets in last year’s strategic priorities:

1. Downtown Enforcement Unit

  • to decrease calls for service in the downtown by 25-percent – achieved 24.4-percent decrease
  • to sucessfully complete 10 projects targeting crack shacks and dealers – achieved 12 projects
  • robberies in the downtown decreased by 45.5 percent, liquor offences were down 63-percent

2. Organized Crime

  • complete 10 targeted projects – achieved 14 projects
  • to organize 10 intelligence meetings with CFSEU and Federal Drugs – achieved 12, meetings were held monthly

3. Crime Reduction Unit

  • targeting and prioritizing a number of prolific offenders (goal 10) – achieved 21 prolific offenders arrested or charged

While the RCMP provided input to the City last fall for the upcoming 2012 budget, this evening’s meeting is Councillors’ opportunity to provide input into the development of the RCMP’s 2012 performance plan.
