PG Firm Wins Bid To Repair Bridge Damage From Peace Flood

Saturday, February 11, 2012 @ 11:17 AM

Prince George, BC – Work is expected to begin next week on a bridge that will replace a culvert washed out by last June’s flooding in the Peace on the dangerous goods route that bypasses Dawson Creek.

Ruskin Construction of Prince George has been awarded the $3.35-million dollar contract to build the two-lane structure between Highways 97 and 2, near Dawson Creek.

The culvert was one of 32 structures on roads and highways in the region damaged by the high stream flows during last summer’s extreme rain event.  A temporary bridge was put in place to re-open the route, and the Ministry of Transportation says  this project is part of the ongoing effort to repair all the damage.

In total, 186 sites on the region’s highway network suffered damage.  Another local firm, McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd, recently received the top award in the province for consulting engineering for its oversight and collaboration on road recovery efforts in the Pine Pass as a result of the Peace flooding.
