West Fraser Records Loss in Lumber Operations

Thursday, February 16, 2012 @ 5:19 PM
Prince George, B.C. – West Fraser Timber has reported  it lost $10.6 million dollars from its continuing lumber operations in the fourth quarter.

The company says sales were down by 10% coming in at $650 million, down from $719.1 million in the same quarter in 2010.

In a news release issued earlier today, CEO Hank Ketcham says the company ended “a challenging year with a difficult quarter as markets for our products continue to be unsettled.” Ketcham added the company remains encouraged with the results of the capital investment program “ as well as the continued commitment of our employees to West Fraser’s long term success.”

The company is approaching 2012 with “conservatism and caution in light of ongoing economic uncertainty in our key markets and the continuing volatility of the Canadian dollar. We will continue to invest in our existing facilities in order to maintain and improve our competitiveness.”

Why is that, Pat.?
