Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Spruce Kings had to go to overtime to do it but managed to edge the Chilliwack Chiefs 4-3 Friday night at the Coliseum.

Michael Colantone scored twice for the Spruce Kings while Jarryd Ten Vaanholt had a goal and two assists and Gerry Fitzgerald scored the winner at 1:29 of overtime as the hometown club followed up sweeps of five games the past two weekends with the victory. Paul De Jersey had two helpers for Prince George while Derek Huisman scored twice for the Chiefs. The teams were tied at 1 after one and went into the third still deadlock at a goal apiece after a scoreless second frame. The Spruce Kings outshot Chilliwack 43-23. Ty Swabb picked up the victory in the Kings’ net.

The Spruce Kings, with 62 points, failed to gain ground on the Merritt Centennials, who remain a point up in second place after clobbering Coquitlam 8-0. Chilliwack and Vernon remain deadlocked in fourth place with 55 points. The Vipers dropped a 6-4 decision to Penticton.

Nanaimo visits the Coliseum Saturday night while Chilliwack plays in Merritt and Vernon plays host to Westside.
