Chamber Week Events Start Monday

Saturday, February 18, 2012 @ 10:18 AM
Prince George, B.C. – This Monday marks the beginning of Chamber of Commerce Week 2012 and has been proclaimed as such by Prince George City Mayor Shari Green as she calls “upon all citizens to lend their active interest, support and cooperation” in making the week a big success.  The Prince George Chamber of Commerce will be busy with several events and workshops in honour of the special week including: a lunch workshop on how to succeed in any economy, a speed networking event taking place on Friday, February 24, and a Milestone recognition luncheon for longstanding Chamber members.

Chambers of Commerce stimulate local economies, direct community promotion, and engage in multi-level advocacy which benefits the entire province.  The network of Chambers of Commerce across BC is the most influential business organization in the province.  As the key representatives of their business community to government, Chambers actively listen to business needs and continually articulate them to government.  The Chamber network extends to the BC and Canadian Chambers, which ensures that businesses are connected at Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels of government.

For event information and registration, visit the Prince George Chamber of Commerce website at: www.pgchamber.bc.ca or call 250-562-2454.

I will pass on “active interest, support and cooperation” by paying my HST with less of a whining grumble. That ought make them happy.

Will there be free food at the lunch workshop ?

“a speed networking event”

Do I dare ask what “speed” refers to in this context?

“Chambers of Commerce stimulate local economies” .. They do? So are we allowed to ask the same question some pose of IPG?

Give some examples please. I know they support themselves and they do not report to us, but it is a claim being made, so some examples to support the claim would be nice.

“… ensures that businesses are connected at Municipal, Provincial and Federal levels of government.”

Okay, so what part does the Chamber play in making sure that through those connections Canada, BC and PG are open for business?

Do they promote potentially competing businesses to come to PG?

Maybe when they talk to you, don’t let them treat you like a municipal candidate and give you only one minute to reply to any of their questions.

Is this the same Shari Green, business owner, who is not a member of the Chamber of Commerce and instead, formed a breakaway group know as the DBIA?

Just a question for discussion.

“Chamebrs of Commerce stimulate local economies”…they do?
Wow…who would have guessed!
