Say no to sludge on farmland.
metalman.
It’s a shame they have not included enough in the budget to at least keep up with roads this year.
58,000 library card holders and 70,000 residents in PG? Really?
Abbott doesn’t want to let a mediator at teachers wage rates? What is he afraid of?? They are not negotiating, they are dictating….and we have all seen what has been happening to dictators around the globe!! Pay attention, a big change of governance is coming and these types of things just cements it!
Yes, I think they must have started to purge some of the cards which have not been used for a while …. I don’t know how many years it takes before they do that.
They should be able to provide some better statistics than that if they really wanted ot let City Hall and the public know how much activity the library gets.
We must remember that the library is open for anyone to walk in, sit down and enjoy the view of Connaught Hill. Also, read some magazines, some books. newspapers, etc. without even having a library card. So, that group, which may not be a significant number, is not captured in data.
But for those who use library services for which cards are required, data is collectible.
1. how many unique cards were recorded over any given period – year, month, week, time of day, etc. So, we may find out that in a given year, there were 5,419 unique individuals who presented their cards for some type of service.
2. what services were accessed?
3. frequency of use – example 539 users accessed library services with their cards more than 100 times a year … or 10 times a month … or twice a week.
I do not know what kind of stats the library puts out which profiles the Prince George population use of the library.
Number of cards which are still active is the poorest statistic to share from the point of view of how much the library actually gets used. Does not tell me anything significant.
Coastal Oil Tankers
Transport Canada quietly approved the oil tanker traffic plan for the Northern Gateway Pipeline Project.
To me, coastal oil tanker traffic is the part of the project that needs the most thought and consideration. Now, it isn’t even on the table.
Frank
$5.90 for a gallon of gas. No raises for for the working person. Hydro up, ICBC up, MSP up, home insurance up, city taxes up, groceries up, user fees up, politicians get raises in all sectors and the coorporate pigs get fatter. Got to love it.
Hey Ben and Elaine how about a thumbs up or down on comments would be interesting.
I actually watched a bit of the legislative sittings the other day and a couple of thoughts crossed my mind, first these people are paid way too much for what they accomplish while in the house it is more of a he said she said meeting. Second,it seems the new Liberal slogan is “And I am proud of that” every MLA said it at least once during their address.
Just one more take on the “families first” notion it seems to be missing a few words, maybe these? “to take the hit”. Personal thought I am so tired of being lied to,somehow somewhere there must be a way to hold these people accountable for the lies, thievery and the misuse of funds they have committed outside of an election.
Hey people, do ya think we the people of Prince George have been hoodwinked by Green and company?
1. Less money for road repairs!
2. More money for Council and Mayor salaries!
3. Plunging the city further into debt for a useless dike!
4. The Haldi Road fiasco!
5. The APP to borrow more money!
It’s only been three months since Green went down the victory lane – Yikes!:(
What kind of a gallon? A litre is a litre is a litre.
A gallon is a US gallon, an imperial gallon … a bushel … a peck ….
Hey Cheetos, the answer to your question is Yes! Fasten your seatbelt: Almost three more years of hoodwinking to come!
Sorry Gus but I thought you were smart enough you could figured that one without an explanation.
1 imperial gallon = 4.546 liters = $5.90
1 US gallon = 3.785 = $4.91
can anyone tell me if the ones ic international coin colectors are on the up and up they are advertisinn in the citizen
So someone wants to build an oil pipeline across BC and all of a sudden the tanker traffic moratiorium on the north coast is toast? Issues this big that affects the livelihood of thousands of people should at the very least go to a referendum. Once again BC us being shitted on by the feds. When do we stop taking it?
Sabi, the prices they quote would be for mint coins. Here is the trick. They tell you your 25 cent coin is worth 200.00 and you go away happy. That coin might be worth a whole lot more and one would be wise to have it appraised by someone else. So don’t take the money and run.
In general though the older coins have a high silver content. So they are special for their metal value not their rarity value. The same would go for the gold coins.

58,000 library card holders and 70,000 residents in PG? Really?
The stats probably include cards held by people who do not live within city limits.
The library receives some funding from the Regional District to cover this.
metalman.
For all those smart people that think firetrucks need to chase ambulances. Be cause they have the “jaws of life” and other equipment well thats the dumest idea out there.
On most 911 calls the ambulance will know where its going. Sounds little stupid to need the jaws of life when responding to a residential address.
We had a recent 911 call there were four firemen and four medics in my wifes bedroom all falling over each other. And the most puzzeling part was that two ambulances responded.
Over Kill you bet.
Cheers
acrider54, I too think it would be good to have the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” buttons on these comments.
“can anyone tell me if the ones ic international coin colectors are on the up and up they are advertisinn in the citizen”
My advice…. if they come looking for you, RUN!!
To find a full set of statistics on what and who the Prince George Public Library is serving, go to: http://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/pls/reports.htm
metalman is correct that the stats include people from outside of the PG city limits. In addition to people in the regional district, residents from outlying communities can pay an annual fee to become full PG library members.
BC Onecard memberships are free to people in other communities, but Onecard memberships have limitations on the type of materials that can be borrowed.
Retired 02 wouldn’t you rather have an over response rather than an under response? The firemen are also first responders. Do you want a delay while time is wasted to try a figure out who should respond and with what equipment. I think you should be thankful, not critical. Firemen do a lot more than just haul around the jaws of life. I think you should take a trip to a firehall and get educated.
Retired 02
So what number of responders is appropriate? The crews on firetrucks travel together. If they get a fire call they are ready to go. What if the steps are icy? Wouldn’t a few more hands help getting a gurney down the stairs? They are being paid anyway ,better to have them out there just in case.
Cheetos – 4. The Haldi Road fiasco!
Apparently Haldi Road Residents vs The City of Prince George on the week of April 23, 2012.
Well said seamutt – the other thing to consider is they are being paid regardless. So for them to show up at a call is not “expensive”. A couple of bucks worth of fuel and it keeps them sharp. Its a no brainer. You have to respond to each emergency full out and then worry about how mmuch is needed. As an example, there was a medical distress call recently during a major snowfall. Firemen were first on scene and then, while the paramedics tended to the patient, the fireman shovelled a path all the way from the house to the street for the gurney to run. Thinking it saves money for them not to respond would cost lives. PERIOD.
Gas prices up how is that carbon tax working out, an extra 5.5 cents a litre. This at the same time selling all the oil natural gas and coal the fiberals can.

Does the site seem sluggish to anyone else today? Going from page to page seems to take a lot longer than usual.
Going easier on the moving banners might help. I am sure a static banner would be just as effective, Ben, and a lot less taxing on page loads.
Acrider54. Thumbs Up to your suggestion!
Yes very slow
Thanks bornandbred and Zack Tucker I think it would make things a little more interesting
Rating comments is highly overrated.
Let’s not forget that retired 02 has just had emergency response teams to his house responding to his wife’s emergency. Maybe, just maybe, we could take it a little easier on him. How is your wife retired 02? I hope she is okay.
bornandbred he started it. He should be grateful.
I just need an ambulance when I call 911. To have a fire truck that cost serveral hundred thousand dollar and burn an enormous amout of fule the cost is conciderable.
But I guess when seamutt is sick he/she wants the whole world to know about it. And its not unsual for overkill to please those that are sick in todays sociaty.
I usual take my wife if needed to emergency in our own car but it was a snowy night an used another option and thank you she is quite well at the present.I just had an opinion but there are always the smart asses that know best.
Cheers
Maybe we can put in a “no call” list like with the telemarketers. Then Retired 02 can sign up so that the dispatchers don’t send anyone that he doesn’t require.
Probably the most attention she received, in her life.
lol
“acrider54, I too think it would be good to have the “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” buttons on these comments.”
Why? The Citizen has that.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2012/02/24/pol-robocalls-guelph-staffer.html
There is an example from CBC. Here is the sotry:
“A Conservative staffer has resigned following reports that Elections Canada is investigating fake election day phone calls used to keep voters away from polls.”
“Voters in that riding complained they were the target of automated robocalls claiming to be on behalf of Elections Canada that directed them to the wrong polling station. Telling voters to go to the wrong or non-existent polling stations is a voter suppression tactic and illegal under the Elections Act.”
so we have various responses ….
here is one …….
1 ————————————-
We send our military personnel in to other countries to help expel regimes that do not represent the will of their people. We send monitors to fledgling democracies to support free and fair elections. Yet in our own country, supposedly a bastion of democracy, we have people actively trying to confuse voters and subvert the democratic process.
This cannot be swept under the rug, Prime Minister Harper. Not thoroughly investigating this matter tells Canadians that our rights don’t matter. Or rather it screams that the protection of our democratic rights is subordinate to the protection of your image and your party.
Political affiliations aside, none of us wish to live in a country where tampering with the election processes is sloughed off (to say nothing of “actively supported”) by the governing party
57 thumbs up and 3 down …..
—————————-
So let’s try it …. how many thumbs up here …. and thumbs down.
my vote … thumbs up …..
I think Ben should do something to keep free for all friday at the top of the page …. too many sotries today and it gets burried three pages down by now.
Gus votes thumbs up :-)
So what if they only called the ambulance, then called out the firetruck, bit of a delay don’t ya think. Are you a doctor, with the knowledge to put forth your request. Snowy night you say well there is the precaution in case one of the responders gets delayed.
If I call 911 I won’t care who knows, everyone come and then sort it out when they get here. I am a smart ass hey, well then I know you don’t qualify.
Thumbs up here,gus!
