Prince George, B.C. – The RCMP’s North District Provincial Traffic Services has released a little more information regarding this morning’s two-vehicle collision on Highway 97,  15 kilometres north of Quesnel.

Corporal Madonna Saunderson says at about 9:45 a.m. a Honda Civic crossed the centre line of Highway 97 and drove into the path of an oncoming commercial transport truck. The driver and lone occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name and home town have not been released. The driver of the semi was uninjured.

The accident closed the highway 5.5 kilometres north of the junction with Highway 26 in Quesnel.   The estimated time of opening is 4 this afternoon. North and southbound traffic is being detoured around the accident site.

Quesnel RCMP are advising motorists to drive with extreme caution with properly equipped vehicles as the snow continues to fall on the central interior.

Meantime Cpl. Saunderson says a collision between a pick-up and a car 20 kilometres east of Vanderhoof did not have serious consequences for those involved.  She says ambualnce crews were sent to the scene but injuries were relatively minor in nature.
