Prince George, B.C. – The Annual Tour de North Cops for Cancer bike ride returns to it’s original route this year, making the trek from Prince George to Prince Rupert.
Last year, the Tour altered the route to one from Ft. St. John to Williams Lake. From now on, the route will alternate its routes to allow additional communities to take part in the annual fund raiser.
For nine years the Tour de North has followed the East/West route from Prince George to Prince Rupert, stopping in ten communities across central British Columbia.
For the 2012 Tour de North, Tour will start in Prince George on Friday, September 14, 2012 and traveling through Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, Houston, Smithers, Moricetown, Hazelton, and Terrace with the ride concluding in Prince Rupert on Thursday, September 20, 2012.
“In 2011, communities along the North/South route responded very well to the Tour coming through and our objective is to alternate year to year between the North/South route and the East/West route”, says Erin Reynolds, Tour Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society.
“This will enable us to share the Tour experience between more communities in the region. The (Tour) team is looking forward to a return to the East/West route and working with those communities again to continue to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research and support programs that the Canadian Cancer Society offers”, says Pat Egan, Inspector (Fort St. John) and Road Captain for the Tour Riders. “We hope that communities on each Tour route will continue to embrace the Tour de North each year as communities and riders raise funds for pediatric cancer research, for support programs for children and families on the cancer journey, and for Camp Goodtimes available every year for children, diagnosed with cancer, and their families to attend at no cost.”
