Job Fair At CNC Tuesday

Prince George, B.C. – One of the larger jobs fairs in northern B.C. will be held at the College of New Caledonia next week. Everyone, students and members of the public alike, is invited to CNC’s Prince George campus on Tuesday for the 9th annual Northworks job fair.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the college atrium. Job seekers are asked to take their resumes and meet more than 35 local, regional and national employers to see what they have to offer.
“A number of new employers are participating at the 2012 event” says Kris Dittman, CNC’s student placement officer. “Northworks job fair is an excellent opportunity to meet potential employers to discuss career paths and current employment opportunities. They can also investigate the diversity of jobs related to their training and plan a career path.”
Job fairs are expected to play a more important role in light of a federal announcement this week. The Harper government has cancelled the employment centres for students which have operated across the country for more than four decades. The federal Human Resources department says the Hire-a-Student centres have seen attendance dwindle in recent years as young people turn to their computers to find employment online.

Job bank which is the most important source for both job seekers and employers in Canada has been shut down due to technical difficulties for over 2 weeks and is still not up and running. This government run site has put a lot of people in limbo and worse. With all the resources available to rectify the problem it is a disgrace that it has been over 2 weeks and nothing has been done about it. Impossible to get a hold of some one in government to get an update. The Globe and Mail did an article a few days ago about this. Seems Harper doesn’t care about the masses. This should have been given top priority and fixed yesterday.
Why are you relying on the government or a government site to help you get a job. Major employers in the western provinces are begging for employees and can’t find them.
I have a job cougs78.
My point is that Hundreds of thousands of EMPLOYERS and Job seekers use job bank each year and have come to rely heavily on it.
The major employers that you speak of also use job bank and when the site is down for over two weeks the resources left for both employer and employee Are sub par in a lot of cases. Especially in rural areas.
If the government doesn’t give a crap about jobs, then we are collectively finished.
Job bank was and will be a good resource for people looking for work but it certainly isn`t the only one out there. With this economy I`ve had to job hop quite a bit and the previous 3 jobs I`ve had have all come from company websites rather than the job bank.
Job bank is hardly the single defining resource when it comes to locating suitable employment.
Definitely not the single defining source.
Job bank was however the most encompassing of all the employment websites. Not every company has it’s own website. Actually most employers do not have their own site. Company websites are great if you are targeting certain fields and have a certain skill set, but for Joe citizen the merits of job bank were untold. It provided an array of perspective employers from many different areas of employment. One would never know that many of these employment opportunities existed if not for job bank.
