So we are now issuing snowfall warnings for 10 cm (4″) of snow. I don’t know how mankind will be able to endure a snowfall of this magnitude. Does 4 snowflakes and a 10 km wind constitute a blizzard warning? At what velocity is a wind warning issued, 10, 15, 20 km an hour? I would fear a rain warning of 1″ and would be moved to start building an ark in the backyard. I don’t know how we ever survived life on the prairies in the 1950’s. We should have all froze, got washed or blown away. Maybe we should consider a BS warning since we are being inundated with it every day.
Considering the number of people who have been killed on area highways this winter, perhaps that information is valuable to some people.
It’s useful for a number of reasons – predicting expected travel time between communities, pre-arranging snow removal for seniors, and scheduling ski trips!!
And the drivers not used to northern weather :)
Will someone please tell that Enviroonmentalist, whatsisname, “Canada” to quit with the doom and gloom forecasts?
For crying out loud, it’s March, spring is here, well maybe. First, Canada says it’s gonna be a cold winter, then in December he says we’re gonna have a warm winter. He can’t make up his mind so tell him to git off the durn pot and get a real job.
I can only imagine what they will say when the government starts bringing in more people from outside of the north. hmm wonder if we will see a snow warning for 5cm. :)
It’s the weekend ….. what do you expect?
=====================================
There is a weather advisory, snow warning, wind warning, etc. etc.
Then there is a simple weathr report.
“We expect snow overnight with an accumulation of up to 10cm in Prince George and surrounding areas.”
I think most travellers will understand that if they had planned to travel, they could look forward to some snow around PG. The warning adds nothing more.
A warning might be appropriate if there were snow squals expected with snowfalls at times heavy of up to 5cm/hour with wind gusts to 50km/hr and visibility reduced down to 100 metres and less at times.
But that would not be normal around here, would it? That would be more typical of Central and Eastern Canada.
Are you serious? What does it matter if they call it a weather notice, a weather advisory, a weather bulletin, a weather peach, apple or pear? What they are doing is notifying the public about a weather condition that will be moving through a particular area. What does it matter what its called? Way too much time on the hands of some people.
OH NO that’s a good enough excuse for gas stations to raise the price at the pumps.
(Can’t find the fill up spout)going to be a shortage!!!!!

Hey, I just experienced a couple of those squalls last week and they are nasty! Really weird stuff. It will be a crystal clear gorgeous day and then BAM, in comes this wacko weather with wind and what is really a large dump of snow in a short period of time and as quick as it came, it leaves. The weather out here really can be crazy. I think it’s the way it comes off of the Great Lakes and then funnels into the Ottawa River valley. The freezing rain is also something to behold, LOL.
One Democrat posted: “Way too much time on the hands of some people.”
So tell me, where did you find the time to post that? ;-)
I was thinking of you NMG, when my mother worote me about the snow earlier this week I think it was.
They got a 12+” dump in a day in New Hampshire which makes all the ski slope operators happy since they were having a poor snow season and were relying mainly on artificial snow.
I am crossing my fingers that One Democrat does not object to posting about a part of a remote part of this country and the country to the south of us. I would not want to be seen to having way above the normal amount of “free” time. :-)
Nose back to the grindstone ….
Haven’t been down to New Hampshire or Vermont yet. Lake Champlain calls this summer though and we plan on heading down that way for some skiing next year.
We have gone across to upstate New York south of here a few times though and if anyone wants to experience a rather striking visual of the differences between Canada and the US, that is a good place to go. Literally the only thing separating those two spots is the St. Lawrence River (river isn’t a good descriptor BTW, it more closely resembles Stuart Lake) and yet it may as well be two different planets when it comes to the obvious differences in how the economies of each area are performing. It’s actually sort of sad in ways.
