B.C.’s New RCMP Boss Officially Takes Over

Prince George, B.C. – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia has a new commanding officer.
A ceremony marking the official change in leadership took place Friday at the HMCS Discovery in Vancouver. Assistant Commissioner Craig Callens was appointed to the role in December. He is the 20th Commanding Officer of “E” Division and follows Deputy Commissioner Peter Hourihan, who retired last August.
“Assistant Commissioner Craig Callens has spent his policing career in British Columbia including in Prince George, my home town,” said Minister of Justice and Attorney General Shirley Bond. “His commitment to be accountable to British Columbians symbolizes a new partnership between the province and the RCMP, and he certainly has the experience and vision to follow through on the important policing priorities that we have identified as critical to public safety in British Columbia.”
Premier Christy Clark says “In B.C. we have many important initiatives underway with our policing and justice partners. We are proud to be working collaboratively with an RCMP leader who clearly knows the province well, whose career has been built on a strong commitment and vision for policing and public safety in British Columbia.”
“With almost 27 years of frontline and leadership roles in British Columbia, I know that Craig has the confidence and support of the province’s policing and government partners, as well as the women and men of “E” Division,” said RCMP Commissioner Bob Paulson. “His appointment marks a new era of policing in this province. The RCMP will be accountable to the citizens of British Columbia.”

Global TV ran a story yesterday about a lovely young gal that is being charged with trafficking heroin and cocaine. Her mother is an RCMP constable and high school liason in Kelowna and her father is the chief of the Kelowna RCMP detachment.

Frustrating for them. Just like any other family trying to raise kids. You give them all the right tools, ideals, morals, honesty, truthfulness, but when they go out that door, there’s not much you can do.
Sad.
How much did we spend on the extravigant ceremony on the HMCS Discovery? The RCMP spending is unlimited in this Province while the teachers have their profession assaulted.
