Charges Laid In Allegations of Elder Abuse

Wednesday, March 7, 2012 @ 9:02 AM

McBride, B.C.- The  former bulding  maintenance manger at the Beaverview Lodge in McBride, has been charged after  several residents complained  they had been mistreated.

In May of last year,  the McBride RCMP started  investigating  the possible mistreatment of  residents living at Beaveriew Lodge,  which is home to several low income, mentally and physically  disabled persons and the elderly. Beaverview Lodge is managed by BC Housing.

A complete investigation was conducted and several residents provided statements to the police, despite fear they had in doing so. The accused had been hired as the building’s maintenance manager and care taker in 2008.

As a result of this investigation, charges have been laid against Joe Doucet, for Uttering Threats, Intimidation and Criminal Harassment.

He was released from custody with a Promise To Appear and has conditions not to attend the Beaverview Lodge and to have no communication with the residents of that area.

A new care taker has been hired by BC Housing for the Beaverview Lodge.

“Elder abuse is not always immediately recognized” says Cst. Lesley Smith North District Media Relations. “ The abuse can come in many forms including financial, physical and psychological. Intimidation, threats and harassment are all examples of psychological abuse.”

The accused should have to spend some time in a care facility, completely incapacitated, as his sentence (if convicted).

That is deplorable! If these allegations are true and he is found guilty, then I hope the judge gives him a harsh punishment.

Seniors deserve respect and dignity!

Sickening. And I’ll bet this happens more frequently than many people think.

Throw the book at him. Have the seniors throw rotten vegatables as part of the sentence.

Absolutely Disgusting!

whiskey for my men, beer for my horses. I gotta find me a tall tall Oak tree.

the responsibility is with BC Housing for the hiring and contract renewal. BC Housing discounted information from the community for far too long. Managing from afar.
