Cougars Win Their Regular Season Finale
The Prince George Cougars wrapped up their 2011-2012 regular season in victorious fashion Saturday night. Spencer Asuchak scored twice in his final WHL game, and Devon Fordyce stopped 38 pucks for a 4-2 Cougars victory over the Kamloops Blazers.
The Cougars were outshot 14-5 in the first period but led 1-0 thanks to Chase Witala’s ninth of the season. Witala knocked home his own rebound off of the pad of Cam Lanigan. Jake Mykitiuk and Alex Forsberg assisted.
Mid-way through the second period, the Cougars struck again when Troy Bourke found Spencer Asuchak back-door with a beautiful pass. Asuchak had a tap-in for his 17th of the season. For Troy Bourke it was his 100th career point and it gave the Cats a 2-0 lead.
Kamloops quickly made it 2-1 on Tim Bozon’s 36th of the season. He fired a high wrist shot over the glove of Devon Fordyce for his 36th of the season.
It was 2-1 for the Cougars after 40 minutes.
Kamloops tied the game at 9:46 of the third period when Ryan Hanes knocked home his eighth of the season from in front of Devon Fordyce.
Overtime was looming, but late in the game the Cougars went to their third power play and made no mistake. Reid Jackson fired a puck from the right point that went up and over Cam Lanigan for his third of the season and the Cougars had their lead back at 3-2.
Spencer Asuchak sealed the game with his second of the night and 18th of the season into the empty-net.
For Asuchak, Cody Carlson and Drew Owsley it marked the final night of their WHL career. All three were recognized both before and after the game.
Devon Fordyce was brilliant in goal for the Cougars making 38 saves on 40 shots faced for his second career victory.
The Cougars finish the regular season with a record of 24-46-0-2.

Best of luck next year boys. I made have kicked your wagon a few times during the season, but I am always in your corner.
Can you guys do me a favour next season? Can you provide a few wins over the Giants, when you visit down here? I need some bragging rights since I’ll be an outnumbered Cougars fan at the Pacific Coliseum. I really hate that team.
A note to Mr. Brodsky…. remove your son-in-law as GM, and do it soon. I don’t think it’s that hard to see why. Find him something else to do that is more inline with his capabilities.
