Faxman Two large trucks in the inside south bound lane shielded the police officer from seeing the driver of a sedan traveling in the south bound curb lane. The same vehicles shielded the driver of the sedan from seeing the police vehicle.

Sedan driver should be aware that their view of the intersection is impeded by the two large trucks, and that even though they have the green light they have to be on guard for traffic moving against the light.
Police car driver should be aware of the same examples and act accordingly.
The two trucks are not a good excuse for either driver.

Then pinned it without looking down the road is my guess. When the lights come on vehicles magically stop no matter where they are on the road. I get a kick out of the U turns, put their lights on slam on the brakes do the u turn in heavy traffic and expect every one to get out of the immeadiatly.

DPJ: the curb lane there is a through lane as it is at most intersections. It is not a right turn only lane. And Gus, the curb lane right from Patricia to 20th has the most potholes, depressed manholes and rough sections on that stretch of road, same as the other side, from 20th to at least 17th. I always try to take the left lane going either way.
The police officer probably assumed that because all the other traffic had stopped, anyone in the right lane there would stop too but traffic is often stopped in the left southbound lane for someone turning left. He should have known that. the other driver should have approached that intersection very carefully, especially with a siren wailing that close.

Good post Give more. But it should include if the driver is listening to the raidio and the car is more sound proof.

Just glad it was a vehicle that was hit……….not a pedestrian. If all other vehicles are stopped at an intersection it’s always safest to stop. That could have been a pedestrian crossing the intersection. They certainly would not have faired as well as the officer in his vehicle did.

the way some of the careless rcmp members drive around this town I,m surprised there not alot more accidents!, it almost like there above the law??
