I know this has been beaten to death but I am of the opinion that all projects should be put on the back burner until the pot hole situation is taken care of. No PAC. No Winter Games. Nothing until all the roads are completely up to snuff.
I also propose that speed cameras be set up every kilometer on the Hart and the revenues go towards repaving the roads. You want to speed? Then you’re gonna pay.
Speed cameras only on the Hart? I suppose nobody else speeds…:-(
We should have a provincial election before the BC Liberals push this province into a general strike.
We should have a provincial election before the BC Liberals push this province into a general strike.
Exactly right.
I’m hoping Nathan Cullen gets lots of support this weekend. I would love to see him stand up to Harper as leader of the official opposition… maybe our next Prime Minister if he can win the leadership of the ndp.
Something for Derek to consider?

People on the Hart must have a learning disability and cannot read too well. Have problems reading kph signs and especially the ones that say Keep Right Except To Pass
Let’s stop this council from spending money we do not have.
Don’t forget to return your elector response form for the river road dike.
Has anyone heard the outcome of that CVSE/police investigation that Opinion 250 related to regarding unsafe used vehicles – As I’m in the market for a used vehicle for my daughter and want to know if it is linked to any outlets in town.
2 week spring break in 12/13 in the school system NOT needed.
Already getting a 2 week break in 14/15 for the winter games.
Kids need to stay in school and learn.
By the looks of the front page of the local rag, it seems that the mayor is not on speaking terms with them either. Refuses to answer questions on the hiring of her personal assistant.
Are 20 foot walls and a moat around the palace on Patricia the next step for her Majesty?
Lonesome sparrow it is not the people from the Hart it is all the Bowl people that come for a visit and are not used to the the wonderful scenery up here :-)
Ah yes the the hart 500 between 7and8:30, tim’s in one hand and cell phone in the other lol
The Province needs a competent Finance Minister. Kevin Falcon has not done away with the HST as mandated by the electorate and he now wants to send the homeless to Prince George. This duffer isn’t providing the level of expertise this job needs.
I look forward to the day when all is exposed.

For Sale. Brand new 2012 Chev pick up. Needs new front end and has 4 bent wheels. Take over payments of $1200 a month for seven years. Haven’t made a payment, just drove through Prince George. haha.
You should have bought a Ford. lol
Christmas has come early… one of the provincial by-elections is in the riding I live in. Woohoo!! I can’t wait to vote. I haven’t been this agitated by any governing body since Mulroney.
Wow ! Things are not so bad in Lotus Land! Our premiers biggest beef these days is with the hit on one of the Sedin Sisters. No problems in the health sector, or the education area, or lack of real jobs, or child poverty etc. etc. etc.
Are you in agreement of the city borrowing $3,559,00.00 to construct a 3.3 km dike along River Road?
This is a reminder that the deadline for submitting your elector response form to the city, if you wish this to go to a referendum is 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.
I know this is starting to sound like a broken record , but please everyone be aware on the roads. Motorcycles are out again and from here on out we will only see more of them out. It only takes a split second to change someones life forever including your own. And to all my fellow riders out there , be safe, ride safe. Most accidents involving motorcycles are the fault of inattentive drivers , but some are caused by the rider too. Just because our bikes are more agile and manouverable does not give an excuse to be a menace on the roads either. We all want to travel our roads safely , we all have to give the same consideration we are asking for. Please everyone be aware out there, put down your cell phones and pay attention. Riders , slow down and know what is happening around you. Lets all get where we are going safely. Already this season we have one fatal motorcycle accident caused by a driver texting while driving. Don’t let this loss of life be in vain , learn from it and stop driving distracted. This guy will have to live the rest of his life knowing he killed another person because of his own carelessness.
I find it really funny that the commission on COLLUSION at the pumps found none, must have got a pass from PETRO Canada for free gas!
Keep you chin up Shari, its early in your term. Don’t let the vitrol get you down. This is Prince George, home of the whiners.
Reguarding the ELECTOR RESPONSE FORM- ALTERNATE APPROVAL PROCESS about the city borrowing $3,558,000. these forms are available at City Hall on the top floor. If you already have one pleased fill it out and return it to city hall by 5:pm Tuesday April 24/12

This article littlebuds refers to is a MUST READ for every single citizen of this province. It shows in detail the corruption of this liberal regime and it names people such as RCMP members, how they covered up the BC RAIL sale and it names many other peopke involved in this debacle. This article needs to be covered by the MSM (mainstream media CBC etc.) but of course is not being reported. Even O250 has not mentioned it. This story is spreading fast. The liberals are aware this story is out there now. This story will make your blood boil. It is the most disturbing item I have EVER seen in my lifetime in BC. Absolutely disgusting. Here again is the link to the site. Please give it a reading, then forward it to as many contacts as you can. Thank you.

Soon the HST will be extinguished and the lieberals will be wiped out. COMPLETELY.
Does anyone else find it strange that our mayor spend twice as much as her runner-up in the last election?
I know it costs money to pull the wool over peoples eyes, but are the costs rising?
I would sure love to see the full disclosure of who actually paid into what campaign. Hypothetically speaking, stuff like certain contributors and their children making campaign contributions, even though said children don’t even live in this country let alone this city.
Do we have laws in place preventing this? We wouldn’t allow foreign governments to tell us what to do, so why citizens of other countries.
Inquiring minds want to know!
Howard: “Does anyone else find it strange that our mayor spend twice as much as her runner-up in the last election?”
No. Dan Rogers re-used a lot of stuff from his last election run (signs, websites, etc.) and he said as much in an interview that I heard recently.
I see that Canfor is lobbying he governments hard for their school at the old Rustad site. That way they can get money from the taxpayers to clean up the site. Hmmmm! Makes my dividends from Canfor shares happy!!!
alexgtsakumis.com Make sure you are wearing your tin foil hat if you go here. Lots of looney left conspiracy theories.
Asking Shari to have an ongoing conversation with the media as a whole is whining?
She always promised a conversations, now it’s only those with select invites?
But your right, Shari is early in her term and we all do stupid things here and there.
Moving forward I am looking for a more open and transparent City Hall. I know it is a tall order, but it can be achieved.
This is far from a lost cause Shari you can do it. I personally could not be mayor at this point in my life and neither could 99% of these people. Anyone who says being a Mayor in this town is easy and well paid is a fool.
The town is not full of whiners it’s full of tough decisions. We have low population growth, a tough climate(in many ways), aging infrastructure, etc, etc.
You can spring back and win the majority back, just don’t use Rob Ford as an example. He really is just an idiot.
“Brand new 2012 Chev pick up. Needs new front end and has 4 bent wheels. Take over payments of $1200 a month for seven years”
I’m not sure what is more depressing, having 4 bent wheels on a brand new truck or spending over $100K for a Chevy, LOL.
Well said Monkeyboots.
It is not too late to turn things around. Everyone I am sure appreciates the tough job that is the Mayor’s chair. At the same time, the Mayor must be selective on the advice she follows and never, treat the taxpaying public like a group of whiny children that keep getting in the way – they will bite back.
Cheers to another beautiful day in PG! Going to head out x-country skiing at one of our city’s gems: Otway Nordic Centre.
There is so much to be grateful for here in PG. We all need to remember that. There always seems to be things to complain about. I know that when I get a chance to say something, the complaints seem to line up first and I am not an overly-negative person. I think most of us take the good things for granted.
Speaking of complaints, there will always be those pesty potholes but have you driven in other countries. Yikes, I would rather dodge potholes than drive in Italy, London, San Jose, Costa Rica, Mexico. Remember that next time you drive here in PG: it could be worse (and probably will be if the City spends 3.5 million on a dike instead of the roads).
I personally do not like Ms. Green but I understand that that’s personal. I do sincerely hope that those people behind DO KNOW what they are doing. In fact, I pray “please dear god, let them know what they are doing.” Hopefully, we have to go through some rough transitions and then it will all come together. Ms. Green, IMO, is just their puppet. Not sure why they chose her. Think they should have done some background research on their candidate first and picked someone more likeable.
Positive thoughts, positive thoughts….hopefully that will carry us through.

“People on the Hart must have a learning disability and cannot read too well. Have problems reading kph signs and especially the ones that say Keep Right Except To Pass”
They do not have any learning disability and they DO know to read! Just yesterday I was driving down the Hart in the right hand lane, going about 72. Everybody passed me and some were passing those who were passing the others. The usual Hart Indy 500!
Then, I watched all the red brake lights come on at the same time! A moose crossing the highway?
No! An RCMP cruiser coming up the Hart in the opposite direction!
They DO know they are speeding!
If you don’t think Prince George is full of whiners, read the posts following the opening of the Keg.
The Keg is hella nice inside, btw.
“Does anyone else find it strange that our mayor spend twice as much as her runner-up in the last election?
I know it costs money to pull the wool over peoples eyes,…”
She should have bought a dollar store toque for each one of us in Prince George, it would have been cheaper. Thus, the wool pulled over our eyes and warm heads! Lol
Anybody notice the sand bar in the river on the west side of the Hwy 16 east bridge? River must be super low. First time i have seen that sand bar.
bcnorth250: “At the same time, the Mayor must be selective on the advice she follows and never, treat the taxpaying public like a group of whiny children that keep getting in the way…”
If the shoe fits…
Mercenary: first post of the day = right on!!! Lets start fixng what is broke.
Personally I think City hall is broken too.
To pick up on dikes and road situation, perhaps the current dike proposal could include a proper reinforced top that is a sustainable roadway, capable of bearing the weight of truck traffic. Note that Terrace once considered this…
http://www.terracedaily.ca/go8196a/DUTCH_VALLEY_RESIDENTS_SHOULD_PREPARE_FOR_THE_WORST
As for potholes, I read a suggestion at one time in the local news that suggested that like neighbourhood watch, we could have “pothole captains” on a block-by-block basis who would have the basic gravel/mix/and authority to do “fill-ins” with volunteers for worst potholes, and basic training to access, report, and help prioritize deployment of city crews. In this way, we could all be part of the solution. Using information technology/people put to best use:
Having lived in many communities in Canada over the years, we face some seasonal tides that stress all infrastructure, and there are many examples of people coming together to take real action, with real results. Then rather than armchair quarterbacking, we can be players.
Our neighbourhood is already half plowed by the local residents as it is, now you want us to start patching potholes too? We should be paid by the pothole and the money should be taken out of the budget for road work.
Is it possible for those who don’t believe the mayor is off base with her communications strategy to make a post without calling people names or generally slagging O-250?
Ok, I called some of you Fascist, once…;) Most of my posts don’t focus on name calling.
Can anyone explain why this is a good communications strategy that will serve our city well. Only rule is you can’t write everyone off who disagrees as a whiner or call them names. Calling me a name at the end to vent frustration is acceptable.;)
Monkeyboots, I don’t have all the answers, but I can tell you from my own observation that whining in the comment sections tends to drown out the intelligent discourse. For every one good post, there’s 5 – 10 bad ones.
People for the most part are great at identifying problems without posing any viable solutions.
“Does anyone else find it strange that our mayor spend twice as much as her runner-up in the last election?
Really? According to the reporting on this site, the runner-up spent more than 4 times as much as our mayor on the last election. It just didn’t get presented that way.
That’s the beauty of facts and figures. They can be manipulated any way the user of the information chooses. The way the information is manipulated and presented shows the bias or angle of the person providing the information.
Based on how the information has been presented on this site and listening to the interviews conducted by Ben with Shari Green, it is easy to reach the conclusion that Opinion 250 was not in favour of Shari Green for mayor.
Here are a few facts that could be presented a number of ways:
Fact: According To Opinion 250 -“Rogers himself was the single largest contributor to his campaign he put $12,711.49 into the run.
Fact: According to Opinion 250 – “Green reports she contributed $2,855.04 of her own money.”
The 81,147.55 dollars spent by Green was the largest amount of money ever spent by a candidate seeking the Mayorsâ Chair in Prince George
Fact:Shari Green spent less than $3000.00 of her own money on her election bid.
Fact: Shari Green raised more money through donations than any candidate for mayor in the history of mayoral elections in PG
That got posted too early. I hit the wrong button.
Where I was trying to go with this, was that if Opinion 250 was in favour of Shari Green, they would have focused on the fact that her campaign raised more money through donations than any campaign in PG mayoral election history and tried to expain the amazing amount of donations to the fact that she was so strongly supported by the residents of PG.
Based on the very clear bias of Opinion 250 against Shari, I am not at all surprised she is not returning their calls at this point, which is a real shame.
If Opinion 250 decides they don’t like someone, which appears to be the case here, what incentive is there for that person to continue to engage? The playing field is incredibly uneven. The person holding the pen wields all the power. Always has, always will.
I don’t know Shari personally, but I would imagine that she is feeling the weight of public office. I believe we need to hold those in office accountable, but we don’t have to lay the boots to them at every opportunity.
“Shari Green raised more money through donations than any candidate for mayor in the history of mayoral elections in PG”
Is this good or is this bad? It may be a fact, but I think unless some sort of qualitative value is accociated with it than quantitative value, it really does not have a meaning, at least not from my point of view.
You have to remember, the poilitician rarely raises money by him or herself. There are “bagmen” who do tht job. The importaant thing becomes hwo good that person and the machine around that person is in getting money from people. They cannot be shy in getting to the “ask” and their ability to close the deal.
The positive view of being able to collect that much moeny is that the politician is trusted to do a good job in the minds of those who put up the money.
The negative view of being able to collect that much money is that the politician is trusted to do a good job in the minds of those who put up the money.
;-)
You guys are throwing the ratio off. That’s three decent posts in a row!
Zack: “If Opinion 250 decides they don’t like someone, which appears to be the case here, what incentive is there for that person to continue to engage? “
Exactly. It would also be like Enbridge not talking to O250. I don’t know if O250 has tried to engage Enbridge, but if I were them, I wouldn’t want to talk to this site either.
That is my point Gus. It could be either way. What I found telling was how the information was presented. It was hardly neutral. The way the stats were manipulated was very transparent.
As Ben stated, it wasn’t about the loss of advertising revenue, but given the clear bias, why all the hate?
As I said previously, I am disappointed that Opinion 250 and our new mayor are not on speaking terms, but given the disparity in power in the relationship, I can’t blame her.
