Spruce Kings Season a Wrap with Awards Presentation

Prince George, B.C. – The Spruce Kings have handed out their   annual awards to recognize the achievements of those on and off  the ice.

The award winners included Alison Akehurst who received the Volunteer of the Year Award for her outstanding work in the Spruce Kings Souvenir and Gift Shop.

The player awards were handed to Paul De Jersey (Top Scorer and RegularSeason MVP), Jujhar Khaira (Scholastic Achievement and Coach’s Player Award) and Chase Golightly (Best Defenceman and Playoff MVP) were all multiple trophy winners.

Kirk Thompson (Outstanding Community Service) and Trevor Esau (Most Dedicated Player) were repeat winners of their awards from the previous season. Skylar Pacheco (Rookie of the Year) and Ben Matthews (Most Improved Player) were also recognized for their performance this season.

The only other trophy to be presented for Most Inspirational Player was awarded for the first time ever to three players. Leo, Myles and Gerry Fitzgerald shared the award to the delight of those in attendance.

With the end of the season, a total of six players graduated from the Prince George Spruce Kings. Ben Matthews, Ben Woodley, Jarryd Ten Vaanholt and Michael Colantone have all played their final season of junior hockey with the Spruce Kings.

Although they still have years of eligibility remaining, Jujhar Khaira and Paul De Jersey were also recognized as graduating players as they are committed to NCAA programs next season.
