JobFest Ready to Roll

Monday, April 2, 2012 @ 3:55 AM

Prince George, B.C. – Over the next decade, there are projections B.C. will  have over one million job openings, and the demand for workers will outstrip the supply leaving a gap of  61,500 jobs.

The province is putting a focus on youth, trying to get them interested and on a career path. That’s where JobFest steps in.

The mobile  exhibition is aimed at connecting with young people throughout the province to give them information on labour market trends and the career opportunities available in B.C.

The first stop for the tour will be Prince Rupert on April 24th. JobFest will then make its way across throughout the north, arriving in Prince George on May 24th

JobFest is fashioned as a concert event, and will feature music, local community talent and two tents that look like amplifiers. One tent will showcase online career resources and tools, the other will house a temporary tattoo parlour, where youth can select a removable tattoo of their chosen career and listen to a short presentation about that career while having the tattoo applied.

More than 50 career videos will be showcased during the JobFest tour.

Service Canada and the Provincial bodies consider youth to be from the age of 15-30.

We are already paying the provincial funded job find companies to get this information out. The high schools also get this information out as part of their life skills and graduation credit requirements.

There is still the problem with apprenticeships and ITAC… Why is more money spent on this and not spent on the schooling etc? We just lost a bunch of instructors with the recent layoffs at the College of CNC in the trades..makes a person wonder if Privatization of the schools etc will be next…
