Prince George, B.C. – One person is being treated at University Hospital of Northern BC following a single-vehicle accident early this morning on Highway 16 west, right in front of the Bednesti Resort.
Corporal Madonna Saunderson with North District Traffic Services says an eastbound tractor-trailer unit went off the highway around 1:15 this morning and wound up in the ditch. The driver and lone occupant, a Prince George man, was taken by ambulance to UHNBC with undetermined, but apparently non-life threatening, injuries.
Cpl. Saunderson says debris from the accident was contained to the ditch and the highway did not have to be closed to traffic. The semi was carrying a load of fish.. ( see photo at right)
She says the road surface was bare and dry at the time and visibility was good. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this incident and Cpl. Saunderson says police are not sure at this time why the rig left the road.
The driver’s condition is expected to be updated sometime this afternoon.

Sleep goes along way
Going fishing at bednesti, dont even need a rod. I hope the driver recovers quickly.
This seems a little fishy……….
Hey Brownshoe do you know this is the cause or are you making assumptions? Maybe it was caused by someone that crossed the centerline and left the scene.
My original post pointed at Brownshoe wasn’t really that bad that it needed to be removed was it editor?
It was only an assumption no worse than brownshoes!
Wondered why all the newfies were heading west this morning. Musta been a wind up.
Just kidding, love them folks.
Hope the driver recovers.
Coulda been moose avoidance, blown tire, shifty fish………
Accusing ones family is in my eyes and mine was just an assumtion…. Have a nice day, enjoy the sun
here is hoping for a quick recovery. a small piece of highway we should watch for bears on later this spring haha
Who accused someones family of what? You made an assumption and thats what I did. Just to show you how ridiculous it is for you or anyone else to assume what caused this truck to go off the road.
For you to suggest the driver fell asleep at the wheel shows what type of character you are.
And maybe he did but i can assure you it was not my wife and children that ran him off the road like you said it may have been
Optical illusion at night. Does the road with that street light ahead go straight, right, or left… tired and reaching for a coffee caught a bit of soft shoulder… IMHO.
I’ve seen the optical illusion there before… others are a vehicle parked on the wrong side of the road with the high beam lights on… happened last week in the Pine Pass and nearly tricked me into the ditch… sometimes a reflective road sign shaped like a rear bumper on a corner (just past Bednesti on the three lane heading East). Factor in some fatigue and late at night without the proper road marker perspective and these things can happen.
Scene of many accidents over the years. Hope the driver makes a full recovery.
Mechanical problem?
Driver problem? – sleep, sneezing fit, etc.
Road problem? – I love the reflectors they have on some parts of the highways just a few metres apart …. as long as you are awake, and a deer/moose does not come across the road at a clip or a vehicle from the opposite direction does not cross the lane or there is no black ice, one is pretty safe with those.
Looks like the ditch is deep there resulting in not much of a snow bank next to the highway.
As a family member of the person involved in this accident i would like to clarify the truth as to what happened. He was blinded by the glare of the street lights and instead of turning the corner went straight off the road. The lights at bednesti are unusually bright and it only takes one second for things to go wrong. He has been taken to Vancouver for surgery as his back is broken and requires immediate attention. We pray for his speedy recovery and thank everyone who has kept him in there thoughts. I am writing this to clarify the situation so people don’t just assume as we all have a tendacy to do.
