Hope RCMP Look For Driver Of Fatal Hit-And-Run

Saturday, April 7, 2012 @ 4:51 PM

Hope, BC – RCMP in the community of Hope are asking for the driver of a fatal hit-and-run to come forward…

Police say the body of a woman was discovered in a shallow ditch alongside Flood Hope Road by two youths who were out riding their bikes at around 7:30pm last night.  The victim has not yet been identified, therefore, next of kin notification has not been done.

Staff-Sergeant Suki Manj says, "At this point, the police are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.  The preliminary investigation has determined this is a case of a pedestrian hit and run.  It is also believed this incident occurred during daylight hours on a dry, visible roadway."

"The driver, in this case, may not have seen the woman," says the Staff Sergeant.  "Maybe they thought they hit an animal, or perhaps there were other reasons why they may not have stopped.  However, the police aren’t going to know the reason why this woman died until this person comes forward."

Manj says, "When someone takes responsibility for their actions and deals with it right away, it not only makes it easier for the police, but it makes a world of difference to the family who just lost a loved one."

Ayone with information is asked to contact Hope RCMP at 604-869-7750 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
