Another Dust Advisory for P.G.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012 @ 2:50 PM

Prince George, B.C.- The  Ministry of the Environment and  Northern Health have issued a dust advisory for Prince George.

High concentrations of dust, measured as “PM10”, (or particles 10 micrometres or smaller in diameter) are being  recorded in the Prince George  area and the high concentration is expected to persist until  late tomorrow.

Current PM10 concentrations are 59 µg/m3 Plaza 400 downtown, 28 µg/m3 at College Heights, and 52 µg/m3 at BCR at 1pm today. This episode is expected to continue until there is a change in weather patterns.

The current dusty conditions are caused by road traffic stirring up winter traction materials that have accumulated on roadways over the past winter.

Light winds and dry conditions overnight as well as clear skies contributed to dust accumulating in the air shed. Air quality is expected to be better at higher elevations.

Levels should improve somewhat this afternoon but increase again this evening. Levels are expected to decrease late Wednesday as clouds and precipitation are forecast to move into the region.

Real-time concentrations of PM10 in Prince George and other communities in B.C. are available at http://www.bcairquality.ca.

The Dist Advisory means the City of Prince George will once again activate its Free Fare for Clean  Air program.  That means as of midnight tonight, transit rides will be free.  They will remain  free until midnight of the  day the  advisory is cancelled.

“winter traction materials”. They must mean salt and sand.

I have observed a large number of oblivious drivers who like to drive their cars on the extreme right in the dust strip kicking up a big cloud as they go. Ridiculous.

probably smoother over there JohnnyBelt! It doesn’t really matter where you drive on Prince George roads, you will be kicking up dust, bits of pavement, gravel, vehicle parts and the like!

Next……………..

Taxi

You got it all wrong, it was a “Pothole Advisory” fix anything but the Roads, let’s change the Name from Spruce Capitol to “Pothole”

Was downtown near the pool today and the dust from the gravel street was heavy. Why the gravel street – street dug up so they could lay the heating pipes last fall & early winter.

There was no winter traction material in sight.

Remember the movie “The Mummy”? And in this movie was one big sandstorm and in this sandstorm there was a face? It was Sherri Greens’ face. Just before I woke up.

I remember that movie, “The Mummy”. In that movie was a cloud of dust with a face in it. That face belonged to Sherri Green the mayor. Then I woke up.

Oops! Pokey computer.

Nightmare on Patricia Blvd ?
Speaking of which, anyone see Cameron Stolz on tonights CKPG news ? Cameron says the city’s credit card is nearly maxed out. We cannot continue to borrow, however, if the response to the AAP falls short by even one vote we will be borrowing. That must have been the contradiction speed record. Shari Green has taught you well grasshopper.

Well, when are they going to clean the streets….it is usually started by now…what is different about it this year???

WHERE are the street cleaners??????????????

WHERE are the street cleaners??????????????

Seen two sweepers going down Domano today…sheesh I’ve heard of ambulance chasers but…….

little quiet tonight are we JohnnyBelt?

The City is maxed out because of the deal that Kinsley got us into with Terasen …. some $60 million is tied up in that with the idea that some decades down the road we will get this legacy money to spend on repaving all the City’s streets.

Until then, this is the place to invest in auto repair shops.

No wonder this city has fewer new cars on the road per capita than the average Canadian city.

I believe Stolz had a vote on the Winter Games bid.

I recall that Munoz voted no. She lost her seat. Stolz voted yes. He didn’t lose his seat. But he sure complains a lot about how little money we have.

Talking out of both sides of his mouth from the looks of it. Time for him to produce on his campaign promise.

gus: “Talking out of both sides of his mouth from the looks of it. Time for him to produce on his campaign promise.”

Sounds a lot like ‘the people’s hero’ Brian Skakun. Says he’s not in favour of the dike, but supports the AAP.

Vote Cameron Stolz
For Better Roads…..

Ah yes, campaign promises.

Street sweepers and an air quality advisory, two weekend evenings have seen smaller units sweeping private business’ parking lots downtown, raising one heck of a dust bowl…absolutely choking. Is there some kind of rule regarding laying water down with a sweep to mitigate dust storms?

Yes there is but who in city by-law is going to enforce it ?

And not after 4:30 PM. You forgot to add that.
