New Highway Message Boards Installed in Region

Friday, April 13, 2012 @ 4:00 AM
Prince George, B.C,- The next time you head out on the highway from Prince George, you can expect to see a new, message board that will advise of road conditions ahead.
T
hree new changeable message boards have been installed in the area:

·         Highway 16 travelling west from Prince George near Jensen and Jutland Road.
·         Highway 16 travelling east from Prince George at Foreman Road.
·         Highway 97 travelling north from Prince George at Christopher Road.

The signs will  carry information on road conditions or emergency information if necessary. The information will be carried in real time.

The signs have been installed at a cost of more than $1 million dollars.

I noticed they have the wrong highway information on at least one of the signs… working out the bugs no doubt. I wonder though if they could have a temperature sensor built right into the signs that could warn when within a couple of degrees of freezing for freezing rain events?

Waste of money. Hart Highway…..compact snow with slippery sections….duh. Car in ditch higway closed for eight to nine hours….I guess that would be handy.

Message on the sign (when it’s installed) going South:

“Scheduled completion of 4 Lane Cariboo Connector = 2050. Sorry for the slight delay.”

“caution: traffic will be moving at or below the speed limit, except in passing lanes where they can magically do 120”

Yeah, like last night, the sign on 97 North says: “route 16 bare and dry”
The whole concept is a waste of money, a million plus dollars to install general information signs on three out of four routes out of Prince George? And what are you going to do as you are 10 to 15 minutes into your journey away from P.G. when you see a sign that advises of poor road conditions ahead? Turn around and go home? The sign advises you to check “drivebc.ca” Heres a thought, do that before you set out on your journey, of course you probably already did that, right? And of course everybody has a computer or smart phone, right?
Waste of money that the Province will claim is to “enhance safety”
metalman.

Need one on Domano.

Any visitors to PG gonna be warned of our pot hole situation at each entrance to our city limits?

Lets see….one million $ for signs to tell you to check drivebc.ca????? Something needs to be checked and its found not online…..
(at her next photo op maybe)
