Prince George, B.C.- Written comments are now being accepted on the Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Site C dam project.
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the BC Environmental Assessment Office have announced the draft Environmental Impact Statement Guidelines have been issued and open house sessions have been scheduled throughout the region for May.
The opportunity to comment on the draft EIS Guidelines which provide direction to the project proponent and set out the information that is required in the Environmental Impact Statement is 45 days. The EIS will provide a detailed analysis of the potential environmental, economic, social, health and heritage effects of the proposed project. All comments received will be considered by both agencies. Once finalized, the EIS Guidelines will be made public and provided to the proponent.
Written comments must be received by June 1, 2012. All comments will be considered public and will be posted on the Agency online public registry and on the EAO website.
To view the draft EIS Guidelines or to obtain more information on this project, consult the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca reference number 11-05-63919 or the EAO web site at www.eao.gov.bc.ca .
The Agency and the EAO will be holding open house sessions during the public comment period. An open house is scheduled for May 10th in Prince George from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ramada Hotel.
The objective of the sessions is to provide information on the EIS Guidelines and to inform the public of the environmental assessment process and how the public can participate. The public will also have an opportunity to submit written comments on the Guidelines at the sessions. Representatives of both agencies will be available to answer questions. The proponent, BC Hydro, will also attend the sessions to answer technical questions about the project which would see the construction and operation of a dam and 1100 megawatt hydroelectric generating station on the Peace River near Ft. St. John.

Site C should have been built some forty years ago. The way things now stand I’d rather eat my hat than see something like this pass muster. All of these eco-nuts have nothing to burn but coal.
Has to be built to backup all the IPP generation.
Now most of the power from Site “C” will be used in Kitimat for the natural gas being compressed and shipped overseas. Sure hope they pay a good price for the hydro, or will this be another give away to big business ?
