Prince George, B.C. – More accolades for UNBC…
The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) has been named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers.
It is a distinction awarded to only 50 companies in Canada each year for those employers who ‘lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness through their implementation of earth-friendly initiatives and are attracting people to their institutions due to their environmental leadership.’
UNBC was selected by the editors of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project, for the following reasons:
- UNBC’s commitment to becoming Canada’s Green University through its teaching, research, operations, and community engagement
- The University’s establishment of the UNBC Green Fund to promote sustainability projects including the switch to LED lighting at the Thirsty Moose Pub and a long-term study on the use of renewable energy on campus
- UNBC’s Green University Centre, which is staffed by an Energy Manager and a Sustainability Manager
- The biomass gasification system that uses local sawmill residue to produce clean, renewable energy and is built to LEED Gold standards.
- High employee participation in the provincial "Bike to Work Week" event and the provision of secure, covered bike storage and shower facilities for cyclists
UNBC is one of four Canadian universities to make the list, the others are the University of Alberta, University of Toronto, and UBC
Just two months ago, UNBC was named to the list of BC’s Top 100 Employers.,

â¢The biomass gasification system that uses local sawmill residue to produce clean, renewable energy and is built to LEED Gold standards.
And they are trucking that sawmill residue up the hill in electric trucks!
And all that wood they’re burning doesn’t emit carbon dioxide?
Helps when on the taxpayer back. Then one can get to buy and play with all sorts of toys. City is short of money but will buy an electric toy for what. Just who’s goofy idea was that anyhow? Buy a pot hole fixer, something useful.
Preferably a steam engine powered pot hole fixer as to not upset the undeniers.
