Prince George, BC – Well, it isn’t exactly drumming…

Dr. William Osei is banging on a cow bell in a bid to generate interest in local community groups dependent on volunteer efforts for their operations.

As part of National Volunteer Week, the Prince George Nechako Rotary Club, Volunteer Prince George, and Northern Health organized a volunteer fair that’s underway at Pine Centre Mall today, featuring 30 booths covering everything from the Salvation Army to the 2015 Canada Winter Games Committee.

Dr. Osei is doing double duty, representing both Nechako Rotary and Northern Health as its Chief Medical Health Officer.  He says, "(The fair) is meant to bring our volunteers together to show what we do and encourage others to join us to make Prince George a better place to live."  He says the groups involved run the gamut, from health support groups to local sports groups and cultural organizations.

Osei says it’s also meant to show city residents "where to get help when they need it."

Nechako Rotary member, Dean Rolufs, is standing inside one of the tents that’s part of relief kits the club sends overseas when disaster strikes.  He points out that the club does a lot of work locally, as well, supporting children’s projects and other community ventures.  He’s hopeful showcasing all that rotary does, will encourage new people to join.  "It’s a club that just gives back to the community."
