Four PG Roads In Running For ‘Worst Road’ In BC
Prince George, BC – It is the final day to cast your ballot in the BC Automobile Association’s 2nd annual campaign to find the worst road in the province.
Last year, Ospika Boulevard in Prince George was given the dubious distinction of ‘Worst Road’ in the BCAA’s final Top 20 list. In this year’s contest, three city streets appear poised to finish in the top ten – right now, Domano Boulevard is sitting in second spot, Tabor Boulevard is in third, and 15th Avenue is in 7th place on the list.
To the City of Prince George’s credit, in status updates on the Top 20 from 2011, Ospika Boulevard and Domano Boulevard (which came in at 17th) were the only two roads to have had work done on them since the ranking. The re-paving had already been scheduled as part of the City’s 2011 road rehabilitation plan. North Nechako Road was 13th on last year’s list, with congestion being cited as the main problem.

Donât worry Our Mayor and Brian are working to get more tax dollars, Brain has suggested to introduce a road tax on fuel.
Our Mayor is looking very hard into other options from pay parking meters to dog licenses. There will be lots of our money left over from there pay raise.
Although a lot of the blame for the current condition of our roads can be dropped on the lap of the Green and Rogers council there is plenty left over for the administration at city hall.
If you want a real laugh just read through the annual reports for the last few years in regards to roads and other infrastructure. It seems that every year the “Action Plan” for the following year is to come up with a plan to properly fund these items and just like on Groundhog Day the same BS is on the next annual report.
Does the city have any process in place to track progress on these “Action Items” By the amount of massive fails, I would have to say no. If the administration is not developing viable plans to present to council, it is no wonder idiotic ideas such as a gas tax pop up.
The whack-a-mole model of infrastructure maintenance is not the ideal one over a long term. I would hate to live in “the road less traveled” parts of town.
IMO it is time for some heads to roll in the top levels of the administration of the city starting with Miss manager Derek Bates. We pay him around a thousand bucks every day he is sitting behind his desk and are getting little value for money. Maybe a new person at the very top can bring some focus to this group or change some more faces if that is what is required. To maintain the status quo is to continue in the downward spiral.
Maybe Ospika and Domano were already on the list but they only did half a job on them. The forgotten halves are hooped!
To be clear again I am asking the question what the community thinks of a gas tax as part of the issue of road repairs and how we fund those repairs.
I am also going to be bringing to council for discussion other ideas for funding road repairs.
Lobbying the Province to share a portion of their $20 million plus they take from PG with the 14cents a liter gas tax.
Lobbying the Province to create a Northern BC Municipal and Regional District allowance to help Municipalities and RDâs to deal with added costs such as snow removal and infrastructure repairs because of the northern climate and because we contribute a large share of the Provincial revenues from Northern BC
Developing a long term financial plan to deal with our failing roads.
Reviewing our road rehabilitation to ensure we are getting value for our money invested. It would have been easy to just say nothing but I feel I have a responsibility to ask people in the community what they think about some of the ideas that are being presented regarding our roads.
No No and No again Brian. Spend the money you are taking in now properly. Get your priorites straightened out. Give your self a raise then ask for more taxes? Kiss my a$$. Taxes were raised once before to help pay for the roads, what happened to that?
Cancel your raise and the insane Leaf purchase is a good place to start!
“Developing a long term financial plan to deal with our failing roads.”
Before looking at digging deeper into the wallets of the taxpayer, every effort should be made to ensure what is being taken in now is wisely spent.
Can the following pass this litmus test?
-district energy system?
-parking lot air rights?
-PG hotel flipping?
-purchasing office?
-downtown land purchases?
-aforementioned leaf?
-mayor’s assistant?
-dyke?
-winter games?
-tax holidays and other downtown core OCD?
I never added the raise to this list as if better decisions are made as a result then that will be money well spent IMO.
BTW if by some miracle a user pay system for road repair goes through(gas tax), is the road repair portion of the taxes on my house going to disappear. If not it is just a tax grab and the answer is a resounding NO!
1 more BTW – the next election is being moved forward so there is only this paving season and the nest one for mayor and council to get a handle on this before they face the electorate.
