Mum’s The Word From City Hall On The Reverse Petition
Tuesday, April 24, 2012 @ 4:34 AM

Prince George- While mum’s the word on the fifth floor as to how many signatures have been turned in opposing the borrowing of $3.5 million dollars to construct a dike along River Rd adjacent to the river, inside sources say there has been plenty of action with people showing up with the forms signed turning them into city hall. They have enough said one person.
While they suggest that the number of 5315 is well over the top, the organizers are all calling on city residents to make sure they have signed the form and turn it in before five pm. tonight.
That’s the deadline for the reverse petition. City Solicitor, Walter Babicz, says some counting has been underway and his department will be able to apprise council of that total when the agenda for next week’s council meeting is made available.
Eric Allen says it was only a four-week window and the residents of the city have done themselves proud in collecting the signatures. "It is a lot harder than running in an election," he said. "And besides, you have to put your name on this ballot."
In the 2011 election, Shari Green – who was elected Mayor – received 6969 votes, while Dan Rogers received 5332; just 27 votes more than what is required to have a referendum held on the dike issue.

Congatulations Prince George I hope that Sheri has got the message plain and simple, and that is that our infastructure is sadly lacking maintainance. There are a number of things the city would like to have, but don’t you think that we could build up a treasury fund. We could use some of our own cash rather than borrowing from Ottowa when we have a cash costing aquisition. I believe that city hall need to be reminded that it is tax payers money that is entrusted to them. If they want to have a memorial to themselves there is none better than a tax break. Could you immagine a person saying some time in the future –“That is the time when Mayor Sheri Green was in office when we had negatgive taxes and there was a surplus in the bank.”
Just the fact that a lot of people knocked themselves out getting all this work done to ensure the intent of getting enough signers should at least impress them at city hall. As opposed to last time. This isn’t yer fathers referendum.
You can only kick a dog or a taxpayer so many times before they bite back. I think that limit has been reached.
